Kat Wrote:and, again...as a user on the Grid, you will age. Some day you'll be 70, and your lover and all your program friends will still be in their 20s or 30s or whatever...
(In my fic, the user just leaves and never comes back when she's in her mid-30s; she doesn't want her lover seeing her grow old. There's more behind it than that as well, but it's a long story)
It would be a hard life. I mean, face it...a program never really can comprehend the sort of world a User comes from, or even how that influences the User's personality. And probably will never see it--even if it's possible for a program to visit the real world, they have a job to do on the Grid and they can't just leave that.
It's even hard for them to know the User well....your lover disappears for weeks at a time. You have no idea what they're doing out there or what they're like in a different environment. Hell, a user could be be married and have a whole other life and then come into the Grid... |
That is so sad! Sometimes though, it is nice to see a movie or read a story where it does not end all gushy and perfect (our world IS imperfect after all!) I agree with other posters that hopefully you will post your Fics here sometime.
IluthraDanar Wrote:Great thoughts there, Kat. In my story, the program will always see their User lover as someone they love and don't care about the changes as in age. Our society has a lot to learn about that when it comes to older women/younger men ;-). But anyway, the User feels its time to cut the relationship. Harsh yes, but it's how we think, no? |
Good to hear from a fellow Clu 2.0 fan. That is a cool perspective on a user/program relationship not to mention the moral dilemmas with being involved with a villain! Clu being with a user is an interesting idea I have not yet explored. Currently I am digging Quorra/Clu (I am so creative I know). I must say though, if I suddenly entered the grid and had his love and adoration I just about would not care what he did, I would be superglued to his side :-D

@AzureDawn.....how many women fall for the badboys? Too many. Not sure if you've read my fic at fanfic, its under my ID name from here, but if you see something potentially good in a badboy, do you at least try to save them from themselves? MY take was Clu has a good part, since he is part Flynn, but there's been no one to guide him. He knows he has power and control but no one to teach him how to use it well. My heroine tries but ultimately will fail. Since I don't do AU stories, and we know how T:L runs, of course she fails.
I love playing with fic characters! LIke being God, yet in some ways they tell ME what to write. :-)

Probably 80% of women fall for the badboys even if they dont admit it ;-)
I like exploring both sides of the coin - trying to "fix" him, to show him and bring out all the good in him before it's too late (usually sucessfully) AND I like the idea of letting the beast loose and run untamed joining in on the evil fun myself :-) Sometimes I use the same character for both senarios and sometimes I use different ones, just depends on the subject. Like you said, it's whatever the characters tell me to do!

Absolutely! At one point my heroine enjoyed the games with blood thirsty relish but she was under Clu's influence. That can mean IRL, acting in a way that is against your morals, because you love the bastard.

Wow, yeah... well if anyone needs some fanfic inspiration for the kind of trouble that a User and a Program could run into, check out The Time Traveler's Wife.

Pointing to a semi related reference, yes, a user can fall in love with a program.

Wow, now I'm curious about this game, just because I'm wondering if the A.I. is actually so good that it could make you think it was alive.

Umm, what about all those people addicted to World of WarCrack or those other online things? That's definitely a case of users falling in love with a program, except the program is more a Gaia-like object than a Yori or Quorra-like person.
It doesn't have to be a game, either. PhotoShop. Millions of people LOVE that program, myself included.
Or were you thinking more romantically-involved? Hah! We humans are extremely oversexed as a species, of course we'd interface that way with programs if we could! Most programs are more-idealized versions of their programmers, anyways. Always were.
Programming is a lot like pinball, actually. The reward for doing it well is the opportunity to do it again. |

For me, its the unusual-ness of the situation, program, alien, ghost, demon, vampire, werewolf, angel(anyone else want Castiel?). As long as they aren't smelly or extremely rude, as opposed to deliciously wicked (Clu!).
