PSN accounts compromised

on Tuesday, April, 26, 2011 10:15 PM
I'm sure everyone here who has a PS3 or reads up on current gaming news knows about this by now, but Playstation Network (PSN) has been taken down and compromised by hackers. If you have a PSN account, hackers now have access to your full name, email address, real-life address, credit card information, and PSN username/password as entered by you during the sign-up process.

If any of you have passwords that are identical to your PSN account passwords, you need to change them now, and keep an extra-close eye on your associated email.

PSN has, as of the time of this posting, been down for 7 days and, presumably, compromised for almost the same amount of time. For whatever reason Sony is only just now formally announcing both of these.

(For the record, I don't own a PS3, but I do have a PSN account from when I borrowed my friend's PS3 to play Metal Gear Solid 4)

What bugs me is that it took them this long to announce it. Had my credit card information been on there, who knows how much damage someone could've caused without me noticing? It was at most 7 days of someone having my PSN password and credit card information, not to mention my address and everything.

It was just the one hacker, actually. It's a possibility that CC info was taken, not even Sony knows for sure as per their most recent update on PlayStation Blog, and one mere hacker can't get CC and password info for 75,000,000+ PSN accounts

Either way, I have a unique password on my PSN account. Will be making a new email address specifically for PSN. As soon as it's back up, of coursewhere to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

It all depends on how the data is stored. I do not mean to alarm anyone, but if the data was kept in the clear, it will compress quickly and down to a size that is easily transferible.

I plan to play it safe - once the site is back up, I am changing my password and removing my card information from the account. For safety, I always used a debit card - acts like a credit card but uses actual money in one's account. But after this, I am half inclined to wait until they offer a PayPal option.

ouch.

"The Ponemon Institute, a data-security research firm, estimated that the cost of a data breach involving a malicious or criminal act averaged $318 per compromised record in 2010, up 48 percent from the year earlier.

That could pin the potential cost of the PlayStation breach at more than $24 billion."

odd how this happened not long after a lawsuit involving the hacking/decryption of the ps3 console at the kernel level.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pillabortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

True - it took them a little over a week to announce the situation and what's messed up is I found out from CNN what went down, before I heard anything whatsoever from SONY. All I know is this - Even though I actually used a debit card as well, I'm still going to be contacting Experian and informing them of this so that hopefully they can get a lock on things before anything crazy goes down. Hopefully SONY will learn from this and have HARDCORE Security to keep malicious grid bugs and rogue programs from getting inside. I guess I'll have to wait to download the Fallout New Vegas DLC that just came out for PS3.

Also, @binaryzero:

I was just about to say the same thing. What is "funny" about that case is that the hacker supposedly hacked the root code of the PS3 to show how easy it was, and then he went a step further, and tried to apply for a job at SONY to fix the security flaw. That's when SONY went forward with a lawsuit. Serves that hacker right as it was a STUPID move on his part. I wouldn't even be surprised if the guy who hacked the PSN is the same guy from the previous situation, or one of his hacking buddies. where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online
