I first got introduced to tron by kingdom hearts 2. ever since then i have bin a fan, i finely got to see the first movie this month

I remember seeing the trailers for the first film back in '82 and I also remember going to an old now-defunct grocery store named THRIFTWAY to plunk quarter after quarter into the arcade game before the movie came out, and after the movie came out, as well as playing it in Alladin's Castle Arcade, Chuck E. Cheese Pizza, and another place called MARKETS INTERNATIONAL. My Dad took me to see it at a theater in Texas (I was living in Richardson, TX at the time) - I was 8 going on 9 at the time, and it blew me away then, and STILL blows me away today.
Fighting for TRON, The USERS, Both Flynns, Independents, and the mighty ISOs since '82.

I know right i was not lucky enough to grow up with it but after seeing the first movie i was really amazed with how well they did the graphics for it. the first tron movie was definitely ahead of its time and thankfully do to the subject matter (and how well they did the graphics) it was able to age well without looking outdated.

I don't remember; it was a long time ago. I do remember that I first learned of the movie as opposed to the game.

I first heard of it while watching some Featurette on TV regarding Lucasfilm and the creation of their, at that time, brand new computer division. A few seconds of the Lightcycle scene was shown (because it had something to do with disney. I think it eventually became Pixar.) . . . I literally screamed "wow". I hunted everywhere for a copy of the movie on VHS and found one at the local mom-n-pop rental store.
I watched it over and over. My parents asked me why I liked it so much, all I could say was it was so closely attached to my imagination, my idea of a "computer world" I envisioned soo many years earlier as a little kid, it was like wathcing my ideas come to life . . .
(sniffle) good times . . .

My partner. And as I've said before, it kills me that he's the first person who's ever mentioned the movie to me, considering that my ex was a computer geek, I used to work in the data services department of a bank (IOW: computer geek department) and used to help answer phones at the Help Desk and hang out with those guys, I have other friends who are computer geeks...and my partner is the FIRST ONE. He liked the movie as a kid (unlike me, he comes from a computer geek family, so even though the first movie premiered a few months before either he or I did, he saw it as a kid) and it was one of the things that initially got him interested in computers.
We saw that new Tron was coming out, and he was excited, and that was when he explained to me the whole storyline (I was vaguely aware of the film before, though I'm not sure how, but the poster with the picture of Tron and Yori rings a bell like I saw it long ago, and I knew it was something futuristic-like. My grandfather and uncle owned a video store when I was a kid, so that could well be where I first saw the movie box or a poster). If it weren't for T:L, I'm not sure he ever would've mentioned it to me either. Which is a bit strange considering its following...this is the guy who insisted I watch Bruce Campbell vs. Army of Darkness because he was sure I would love it (no), telling me it was a cult classic so I'd enjoy it--even compared it to Rocky Horror Picture Show, whatever. I'm posting a knew reply because i want to go more in depth with my tron experience and i don't what people to skip over it.
I was born in 1986 4 years after the movie came out. never heard a word of it until 2006 when it was in kingdom hearts 2 that a whopping 24 years since its release before i saw anything on it. why do i fill like i was living under a rock  all you guys were lucky enough to grow up with it. but i guess there's a trade off because i am a much bigger movie fan overall now then when i was a kid so i can probably respect it more for what it did so well. 
But the first time i saw it it was amazing how good it was especially at the time it was made. also it aged vary well imo largely do to how well they did on the special effects and some to do with the subject mater. Being a person whose first gaming console they played was the Atari 2600 that's exactly what you would expect to see in a computer world at the time.
SPOILERS
also the ending to tron legacy gets me teared up all the time especially when all those flash back with him and is son and he says goodbye kiddo. i guess it hits close to home because my own dad died not to long ago

Maybe OMNI or Starlog Magazine about a movie made with something called "Computer Graphics", or a preview in the theaters? 1982...
