Hello, Tron Sector. I am new here, as you can obviously tell. First I would just like to say that I've lurked for a while and think this is a really cool community. I love both Tron movies, not for the flashy lights (though those are amazing), but for the well written characters, and deep, philosophical and religious themes that show through the movies. They seem like simple special effects movies on t he surface, but if you take the time to dig deeper, there is a lot to find. They aren't as deep as, say...2001: A Space Odyssey, but they are amazing movies nonetheless.
Anyways, on to my question. I remember back before the movies came out on Blu Ray, there were articles be people stating that they saw the Tron: The Next Day footage and talked about what they saw. They talked about Ram running Flynn Lives, the Dillinger conversation, etc. But they also mentioned a scene in which Quorra mentions having seen Kevin Flynn yesterday. Does anyone know why this scene was cut? Quorra was probably the most interesting character in Legacy, and I would have loved to see more of her. Hopefully it will be released as viral marketing for Tron 3 as that gets closer.
Does anyone know why it was cut?
Thank you in advance!

As for the reason, I'm not sure. But I know it was replaced by the scene with Sam opening his jacket that says "Flynn Lives"

I'm going to guess that it seemed out of character for Sam to start flashing Quorra around so soon. She's only a day old as far as the real world is concerned and a mob scene with the press might scare the hell out of her.

Or it could just be scheduling conflicts. Olivia Wilde returned to filming House not too long ago.

Thank you very much for the responses, guys. I appreciate it. I had no idea that the "Flynn Lives" shirt replaced that scene.

Hmm, I was under the impression that it was filmed, but then cut.

Olivia just returned to House as of 2 nights ago...but that's when it aired. Shows are filmed weeks in advance. Even then, sure there could've been enough time to film a scene, but I can guarantee you it's not because someone 'on the inside' deemed it 'out of character' for the storyline. Think more along the lines of hundreds of scenes never leave the cutting room floor, the fact that before movies get released they release info on what will be included which could always change, etc. etc. etc.

That could be it just as well. Though, it does seem like Garret Hedlund was taken off the set of "Country Strong" in that scene "Reveal your creation date or I will disassemble your code one operation at a time!" |

Yeah, but what makes me giggle is when people are like "Alan looks different in the next day stuff! His hair is parted differently! GAH! CONTINUITY ERRORS!" But seriously, people sometimes don't do their hair the same way everyday. And maybe Alan got a haircut when he became chairman, to look good for all of his interviews. My dad looks a lot different when he gets his hair cut and sometimes he parts it and sometimes he doesn't, it's normal

I suspect a last minute change/reshoot of the "reveal" scene at the end. When the rider on the bike turns up, dismounts leaving their helmet on, then doesn't take it off until the very end, it doesn't feel very "Sam Flynn" at all. He probably would have taken his helmet off at the bike, mugged for the cameras, then elbowed his way through the crowd, finally stopping to flash the Flynn Lives shirt in response to the reporter's query. The fact that the rider was helmeted (with an awkward sounding line from Hedlund as he moves through the crowd) makes me think that there was something else planned for that scene (maybe Quorra as originally teased?).
Just my two bits.

You're complaining about Alan's hair, and not the fact that they used the original TRON game with the Bally Midway red text on the marquee, which contradicts the continuity of the machine seen in the film? Ack.
