Dialogue from Tron

on Monday, April, 11, 2011 11:56 PM
Hey, all.

As I've yet to 1. get back a copy of Tron that I let someone borrow and 2. Not yet received my Tron Blu-Ray, I have been replaying as many scenes as possible in my head.

In one particular scene, Alan is talking Lora and Gibbs in the lab and he says:

Alan Bradley: "Great. Can it send me to Hawaii?"

and Lora replies: "Yep, but you gotta purchase your program 30 days in advance."

In all the times I've seen this movie, I have never once understood what on earth this little bit of dialogue means.

Does it mean it'll take him 30 days to get to Hawaii, or something like that?

So just a question.

Now... discuss away

It has to do with air travel and ticket purchase time windows. Today, if you purchase an airline ticket for a flight 21 days in advance or greater, you will usually end up receiving a reasonably good price. If you purchase it between 14 and 21 days in advance, the price in that time window is a bit higher. The same goes for the 7-14 days window, with the 1-7 days window being the highest ticket prices. So, maybe in 1982 when TRON came out, the window was 30 days or greater for the best ticket prices.

Oh! That makes plenty of sense.

Now, I thought an response to my question would be more harder to find, therefore I created an entire thread for this. Turns out it was a pretty fast answer.

Thanks, HooDooMan
