I also think the "subject to immediate de-resolution" was to imply a sort of death penalty by the powers that be. It wasn't a warning, it was a threat.

Umm when Flynn and Clu were wearing jackets, I don't recall seeing discs on their backs.

In the original, the light/color changed based on the attire of the program. I would guess that, though the 'hardware' of the disc is what changes color, this is the justification for the color change.

I always saw the disks as both secondary data storage and some sort of system tag. It was not a must-have for a program to function, but it's absence pretty much gave permission to any orange-lighted goon to arrest you and/or erase you.
