........how his subscription to Cheap Blatant Ripoff Song magazine is working out. He raps about how great he is yet 100% of the music of that song is the Daft Punk track and he didn't even bother to rework it. Pathetic. And his rapping is lame and I never even heard of the guy before.

I don't even classify what is passed off by mainstream media networks as Hip Hop, Hip Hop. To me, that is rap. I listen to alot of old-school and independent Hip Hop artists as I (and many of the old-school and independent Hip Hop artists) CAN NOT stand what dominates the airwaves. where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

I second that!!! "mainstream rap"..or "hip pop"...sucks!!!! And this Pharrell song...smdh...I can't believe people like that try and rip off Tron....but, what do you expect when there exists no originality and talent in mainstream culture....everything is a rip off of something, witch is why I stick to independent and underground artists....at least those guys are original and don't sell out!

As opposed to all those AWESOME Tron fan projects that generate absolutely no income for the studio & filmmakers who produced the films, eh?
Crappy "art" projects, fanfic & slash have done far more damage to the Tron fan community than an authorized song remix by Pharrell ever could.

I gotta say, rap to me is like Snoop and Dre and such... that was the stuff my cousin and I used to listen to in middle school. I'll take "Gin and Juice" over stupid lyrics and weird voice modifications that make one sound ridiculous, not cool, any day. What do you want? I'm busy.

Nobody's looking to make money on that stuff, nor do they present it on a professional basis. I daresay for most people, what they write/draw/whatever never sees the light of day outside of their own home/computer. For those few that do get publicized, it's among fan communities, not the mainstream public.

Because Daft Punk have never taken inspiration from someone else's work to create an amazing song... and have never sampled to create the master pieces they're now famous for. I actually don't mind that song from Pharrell if he liked the beat what's wrong with taking inspiration from it and using it for your own work like Daft Punk have done plenty of times in the past! It will appeal to some and put off others but the original makers - Daft Punk still get their slice of the pie.
Change the scheme! Alter the mood! Electrify the boys and girls, if you'd be so kind. |

Kat, but publicizing that fan art does more damage to the Tron fan community here than Pharrell's song, apparently because, you know, when a fan makes a fan-fic or drawing of Quorra, I know I'm certainly thinking 'how dare they damage our fan community!' what nerve.
I like some rap, but this one doesn't do anything for me. Just because he has money and connections to sell his fan art doesn't make it more worthy and noble than non-royalty fan art; nor does it do 'less damage' to the fan community. (It may benefit DP's and/or Disney's coffers more, though). I'm glad DP and/or Disney get royalties from his song. That doesn't bother me. But for FA to say fan art, by its very nature, does more damage to the Tron fan community than this song doesn't make sense to me. I've actually seen more negativity and vitriol here from this song, including from FA's defending, than most non-royalty unprofessional fan art could ever produce.
One thing I do not like is automatic dismissal or hatred toward something like this song just because it is making money for the artist. Just because he has stepped out of the bounds of unprofessional fan art and into the realm of money-making fan art doesn't mean he should be chastised. Not saying anyone is doing that here; I'm just sayin'.

Well, I think the other idea is that fan art is just that... fan art. Now I suppose that it could be that this dude totally loves Tron and always has and yada yada, and the only reason he doesn't post here is because he doesn't know about this place otherwise he'd be a regular, but it's also quite likely that he just thought "dude, that looks/sounds cool and makes money" and went with it, and I think that too is where much of the offense comes from. Much can be forgiven when it comes from love, lol, whether it's fan art, criticism, or what-have-you. And yes, we do tend to look down on people who do something solely for money rather than because it actually matters to them. Look, for example, at how we view people who we decide have kids for the financial benefits they can get from it rather than because it's something they truly want to do, or someone who we feel gets paid too much for working at a charity/nonprofit, or whatever. It's not necessarily an automatic hate for someone who gets paid to do something they truly care about--I love music and if I were amazingly talented enough that I could make a career in performance, I might just jump at the chance; unfortunately I'm NOT amazingly talented but I don't hold it against the people I know who do do it professionally and who I know absolutely love it--but it's an idea that someone might be doing it JUST for the money that I think rubs people the wrong way.
People have a sense of ownership for the things they love and make emotional investments in, and they get sore when somebody comes from the outside with something superficial and tries to appropriate it. Hell, I'll admit I do it on a regular basis myself--whether it was my ex's new bitch waltzing in and acting like she ruled the roost and was the best thing that happened to him since he discovered porn when I was the one who over a series of years spent countless nights talking him through depressive episodes, or the trendy girls who decided to dress like hippies some years ago because "OMG it's kewl" even though they wouldn't know a hippie if they tripped over one--but nobody likes to say, "I took the time to care about this and understand this," and/or "this is what I really am and an expression of that" and then somebody else comes in with no clue and acts like they're awesome because they took a superficial interest.
I have no idea if that made any sense whatsoever.
(Oh. I guess the longwinded explanation wasn't really necessary. I mean, there's a word for it that I think gets the meaning across to everyone: poser. Now, sometimes that word is bandied about unfairly by elitists, but sometimes you do just gotta call a spade a spade.)abortion pills online abortion questions cytotec abortion What do you want? I think people produce those "crappy art" projects and fan fic for their love of Tron...and are not looking to get rich off of it like some douche bag mainstream rap artist is, as some one said...riding coattails...is all they are doing. And by the way...I'm one of the people who produce these "crappy art projects" as you call them, so how can someone showing love for a movie by producing art work and fan fic (That obviously came from THEIR OWN IMAGINATION...not ripping off something ALREADY DONE), cause damage to a community of fans...I think you have it mixed up...I think mainstream rap artists who bite off of things such as Tron, just for publicity and to make money, damage the fan community... brings me to my point I make about that douche bag Lil Wayne ripping off True Blood for some of his album (or single) covers...not really sure, I don't pay that much attention to stupid music, but I remember seeing a cd cover of his that was mimicking the True Blood pic where it had the girls lips licking blood...so yea...I think people like them need to quit ripping off stuff and riding coattails to make a quick buck...

No. I was saying that I spent all that time trying to explain the sort of person that pisses people off--like this Pharrell fellow, whoever the hell he is--and then realized such a persn could be defined as a poser. Which unfortunately only occurred to me after I typed all that.
And yeah, I know it was only the first part, but I figured I might as well respond to the rest. Bit of anticipating what everyone else was going to say, anyway.

Right, this. I make crappy fan fic / fan music as well (and yes, the musical piece I'm working on does include one repeat of the T:L theme at the very end...the rest is original to me, as well as the harmonies to go along with the T:L theme. It gets the point across and ties it in. But hell, as we've said--what else is that than a remix?). Most of what I write/create will never see the light of day except to my eyes because I'm doing it for fun. And yep, I have high standards--I've kept private some fanfic in ALL genres that's better than stuff I've seen published on the 'net. I'd also consider publishing some stuff that isn't nearly as good as some stuff I've seen that blows me away. Frankly, when we're talking about fanfic, anyone who doesn't like it can just hit the "back" button, and heaven knows I've done it for plenty of fan fiction/art/whatever, as well as just regular, totally-original published art...whether it's bad art, or decent but just isn't grabbing my interest personally. Bit harder to ignore something and go on with your day, though, when it's being marketed everywhere. What do you want? I'm busy.

Just saying there's some utter shit out there in the fan art world, and there's some good stuff, and it's easy to skip if you don't like it, but not so easy when somebody's actually out there marketing something like P. Yea but utter shit or not, it came from fans for fans, regardless of how it looks, the fact is they did it for the love of the movie or what ever the art is of...P. Shitty and the rest of them are just using it as another "make quick money" scheme...if they wanna use something from Tron..rather it be the looks of it or songs...make it about Tron...don't just use it as a ploy to get ppl in the buy your stuff...although...I do like SOME rap and hip hop...nothing mainstream...I don't think Tron and rap go together...it just seems like the rap and hip hop industry...and anything "mainstream"...don't have originality anymore...always copying off of something...
