I agree, I think the 5-disc non-ultimate is probably the best purchase. What im talking about as "not well thought out" is:
A: Release of a movie in five different sets and price points. How much forethought do you need to put into a movie purchase nowdays? Rather, how many posts have you put on this forum about the bluray, before you bought it. Proof positive
B: NOT have the more popular sets available on RELEASE DAY. Why offer an "ultimate experience" if the experience is going to be you going home sad and emptyhanded, or half-fulfilled for settling on the 4-disc. There were 2-5 copies of the ultimate, if you were lucky.
C: The 5-disc non-ultimate was not available the morning of, in fact. Best buy stocked it after many many complaints, just minutes before the signing began. Wtf
My suggesstion was to spend that extra dough on something else after he got the difference refund. as to not commend a dumb dog for a stupid thing.
The marketing behind the $69 (no sale price, unless you catch it) for the non ultimate, whereas $64.99 for the ultimate. Someone is not on the ball here. Poor release logistics is all im saying. |
In reply:
A) How Disney chooses to market their products is their business. Granted, I was all set to buy the 4 disc version UNTIL I found out that Tron was being re-done in DTS. Movies in DTS are magic to my ears. That's what ultimately sold me on the 5 disc version since I already have the Tron 20th Anniversary DVD.
I was also pleasantly surprised to see that the image on the Tron blu-ray had turned out very nicely. The color palette on both the 20th Anniversary DVD and blu-ray versions look great.
B) I think Best Buy was thinking that the popular sets were going to be the 2 and 4 disc blu-ray versions of TL. I saw no mention of the 5 disc non-ultimate package in their weekly flyer which I thought was rather odd. The 5 disc was more expensive so that would probably explain the lack of that particular package being widely available.
C) The 5 disc non-ultimate version WAS available at Best Buy the morning of the release. If you look close in my review you'll see the Best Buy receipt in the blu-ray case plus I make mention of getting the 5 disc version at a substantially lower price thanks to having a voucher and coupon. However, to sell the 5 disc non-ultimate version at a higher price than what the Best Buy website offered it at is just stupid; customers shouldn't have to be pulling up the website on their smartphones to get the price adjusted accordingly. Clearly someone fell asleep at the Best Buy pricing wheel that particular day.
