WARNING: Don't read if you haven't seen the movie.
Kevin Flynn should have been able to just leave. He knew the root user account password. Defeating CLU should have been a breeze.

This stands for 'super user'.
Some of the original plot ideas prior to production made a bit more sense. Flynn withdrew after the death of his wife. Throwing in a son makes the formula falter. No dad will let their son go fatherless.
Even an elaborate plot by Dillenger to subdue Flynn in a 20 year prison which is ironic since it was mentioned he himself was in a sort of prison would have made more sense.
It was just a major plot hole I couldn't get past.
With all that said, I guess there are other ways to explain that plot hole.
* Tr3N will come out and say more about Flynn's fights against CLU.
* Perhaps CLU knew the root password but had a lookout stationed in front of the IO/Tower (Rizzler) TR0n who had super-user privileges
* The laser is triggered by the front door to the man-cave.
But I also can't get away from the idea that why is there no laser access from within the Grid version of Flynn's man-cave?
I guess I need to wait for Liserberger to release the special edition 6months from now with all the commentary.

I was kinda bothered by the whole "Flynn fighting" backstory too. "Why didn't you fight?" Sam asks (the obvious, million-dollar question: "why'd you let your friend get screwed and just run away?"*) "He did!" Quorra says, then they go on to explain that when Flynn fought, Clu got stronger. And that was it. Seemed weak to me, both as an excuse, and short on explanation. They needed some reason to make Flynn not look like a big coward, so they threw in a couple lines and expected it to be okay and we were supposed to just buy it. And I just didn't. For one, why would Flynn fighting make Clu stronger? And if it did, then why wouldn't Clu fighting make FLYNN stronger?
And is his sense of guilt over that why he is obsessed with the idea of "removing oneself from the equation"? Because he feels that is what Tron did, so he has to study the concept further to try to understand it since he may feel he didn't at the time/think about doing the same himself to make up for it at some point?
*Contrast this to the end...Flynn is sacrificing himself to defend Sam, but Sam won't leave him. He wants to go back and fight for his dad. It's Quorra who has to push him to go.
(Though along that vein: who's right? Flynn runs and leaves Tron to [he thinks] die fighting Clu. Quorra has to convince Sam to leave by telling him "it's what he {Flynn} wants." So who's right? Do you stay and fight and not let someone close to you get killed for your sake, or do you go because if you stay, you risk ruining what they're fighting FOR [your safety/escape]? Do you hope you can fight and make a difference and maybe save both of you, or take the risk that you both might end up dead and their sacrifice was in vain?)where to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online

Flynn did fight back (possible via organizing some resistance forces) and Clu got stronger in retailiation.
It makes sense to me, Flynn is a hacker-programmer-visionary, he's not really knowlegable in fighting one-on-one. Flynn was in shock that Clu turned against him and was about kill him for "being corrupted" and not going with the plan to "make a perfect system".. ..
Now being good at Jai Alai and Light Cycles doesn't really equal "good at hand-to-hand combat". It was never shown that Flynn was a good fighter, and well Flynn was caught off guard and kind of in shock so not actually in that "fight" response. It's pyschological, fight or flight. Flynn mind went "flight" it's not because he's a "coward". That an off-base inferance IMO. Tron was protecting Flynn and willing to sacrifice himself so Flynn could escape.
I think an aspect of the back story that will be shown in "Tron: Uprising" is that Tron with Flynn (in hiding and helping from behind the scenes) organized small groups of resistance against Clu's forces in some areas/cities/sectors of the Grid.
Clu unfortunately just grew his army (via rectification) and got to strong in retaliation to "Flynn's Resistance" most likely...
It could of been phrased/explained a bit more clearly in the movie sure, but that's the impression I got from how things played out and from the dialogue...

But Flynn says (of Tron), "I never saw him again." It's clear he thought Tron was killed then, so he couldn't have worked with him later to organize a resistance.

Yes. That's right.
Flynn may have tried to form a Resistance on his own at some point but was put down quickly. So he may of been refering to that.
It is unfortunate the Tron had to go "incongnito" and let Flynn think he was dead.
It will be interesting to see further back story unfold in Tron: Uprising, and how Tron trained a new leader (Beck) for a resistance group.

The way I saw it is that when Flynn tried to raise a resistance, CLU became POLITICALLY more powerful. He turned Flynn's rebellion to his advantage to get other programs to side with him. Notice how CLU is introduced just before the lightcycle scene. He's called "Liberator" Somehow he convinced other programs that they needed to be liberated from Flynn's tyranny.
Kinda reminds me of the Emperor in Star Wars....

That's exactly how I saw it too, and heck reminded me of Hitler, too.
All genocidal maniacs feed on opposition of their opponents. They can twist things into looking like their advantage.

OH. I never thought of it that way. I guess I was looking at it from the "two halves of the whole" dichotomy of Flynn and Clu. What do you want? I'm busy.
