I didn't want to do that, because in the case of Kevin's disc, velcro would just look tacky on it as well as on the back of my shirt, and because I don't have velcro on ALL my shirts so on whatever day I decided to wander around with a disk on my back, I'd have to go change my shirt. |
Well, for Kevin's disk I would get white velcro for the disk. And, I suppose you could consider this a bit sad, but I actually am in the process of sewing velcro to ALL of my shirts. Am I obsessed?
Bit: "Yes!"
*pets Bit* Yup. And proud of it.

Yeh, I think that is going pretty overboard, but hey. To each their own. I think that the time spent sewing all of that Velcro onto all of those shirts could be spent coming up with a more efficient idea, though. |
Well, if you come up with an idea, let me know. *goes back to sewing, Bit hovering curiously in the background*

I came up with something that worked pretty well for Halloween. I picked up a coat hook from Target, and I had a couple really strong magnets from an old hard drive. I taped one of the magnets to the hook, and then put the other magnet inside the jacket, and the hook/magnet on the outside. It had a tendency to move a bit when I would take it off and on, but otherwise worked quite well.

The plastic packaging that the disc sits in has been used to make a mold and casted, etc. on the RPF.
I plan on making a different mount when I start working on my Tron outfit and I'll post pictures once I start. However, it will involve modifying the actual disc with powerful magnets.

I don't know if this would be any help, but i've been working on a Legacy-Styled costume. For the hub I found a pack of plastic containers at the dollar store, and tied elastic fabric around it, then sewed the fabric onto the back of my jacket. Holds my disc pretty well.
The catch is that it's not very film accurate, and it sticks out pretty far. But it's easy to take on/off and it holds pretty tight. For approx. 3 bucks worth of materials (NOT including Jacket itself) and a half hour's time assembly it works really well.

a trick I used that worked pretty good was taking a piece of foam core glue 4 rare earth magnets to one side then use stitching glue to hold it to the inside of the shirt, glue 4 more magnets on the disc then attach I did have some drooping, so I had to glue the inside of the foamcore to a wifebeater then that stopped the sagging...

Magnets. Apparently, the hero prop in the film, whenever a character reaches and grabs the disc off its housing, uses small rare earth magnets on the back of the disc. However, this is tricky as you don't know if the magnets would be strong enough to hold the disc for a long period of time or if they would come off with the slightest bupm.
The better option would be to create a custom housing that will hold the disc in place and use Velcro to hold the disc onto the housing. At least that way, you know it won't come off when you don't want it to and will come off when you do.order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill

My plan is to make the holder as close to the one in movie as possible. I will use foam to create it and rare earth magnets to hold the disc on. Rare earth magnets are extremely powerful, I'm not too worried about the disc falling off.
