Hexagon Symbolism?

on Sunday, January, 23, 2011 10:47 PM
Hi, I was wondering why the Tron: Legacy used hexagons so much in its symbolism. My initial idea was that it had to do with DNA, but after noticing all the references to [clock?] cycles, [hard disk] sectors, etc. I hoped that they might have some deeper meaning related to computers/quantum physics/string theory. If the Grid is has so much modern computer aspects to it, I think it would have made more sense to me to use something like arcs or circles instead of hexagons. Does anyone know if there's a subtle meaning to this symbolism that I missed out on?

This is only a guess, but maybe it is a nod to computer scientists that use the hexadecimal numbering system to translate binary code into human friendly values. I know hexadecimal is commonly used to represent memory addresses. So maybe it's just a "hex" reference that is represented visually in the movie as physical constructs, which is why we see hexagons everywhere. Yeah, it's a stretch, I know... abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

I see it as a natural order symbol. We have bees who form hexagonal cells in their honeycombs, we also have Virus phages with multi-faceted hexagonal shaped heads. Hexagons form the basis of many crystaline forms in nature such as Snowflakes. I dunno, I remember reading that they liked that shape and they wanted to mirror alot of the structure of the grid on it. I also think there is some symbolic nature to it in cybernetics....Like in flowcharting.

Tessellation with hexagonal patterns is a fairly standard motif in science-fiction design. Not only does it "look futurey" but also makes the basis to a lot of stress structures.

Well not only is it cool and futuristic looking but it may also represent efficiency. In terms of efficiency of shapes first comes the circle then comes the Hexagon (i.e. the highest contained area to perimeter ratio). I was told this by a mathmatician.
