That stock scream has been around that long? I thought Spielberg invented it. It's in almost all of his and Lucas's work at some point.

There is another stock scream I have heard in a lot of movies that is NOT the Willhelm scream, it's more like a eYAAAAHHHH!!! kind of sound, used a lot when someone is falling. Let me see if I can track it down. I've heard it a lot and I think it may be in TL as well.
I did some looking and it's called the howie scream http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZFR7aZ3oAc a lot of times the version I hear is clipped too. I do remember the Wilhelm scream in TL though. It's when that programs shatters and like glass shards come flying across the floor as the door opens. I don't think Disney cares about that anymore. There was a perfectly appropriate moment for it in Tangled and they didn't go for it.

I noticed it the first time I saw the movie, which was awesome. It was kind of "stuttered out" to add some digital zazz to it.

I think it was used for the lightjets.
Trivia: The Howie Scream was also the sound effect used for the TIE Fighters.

It's named Wilhelm because they don't know for sure what actor did it!
Hmm, had never heard of the Howie Scream - but it makes sense -
always did hear a scream in the cool sound of TIE fighters.
So where is the ORIGINAL Howie scream from?
My 2c - Tron 82 sound effects were much better!
I remember seeing a documentary special about how they mixed various sounds
for the flying discs and light cycles...
Sometimes I have my hair cyberpunk style like the red minion guy from Tron L
