On the Digital Domain video you can get a pretty good look at the combatant names in the Disk Wars. There are eight pairs of fighters and the names are pretty cool--some with obvious meaning. I've looked them all up and found some cool references. Can you find references on the ones that I didn't?
Fight 1
Names are illegible
Fight 2
BACKUS (as in Mr. Howell?)
CRAY (one of the original supercomputers)
Fight 3
WULF (I'm blissfully believing this is in reference to a major character in my fanfiction)
MINER
Fight 4
HURD
URBAN (as in city?)
Fight 5
Names are illegible, but this is Sam's fight
Fight 6
LAHCIN
LOGG (as in computer log?)
Fight 7
ECKERT
TURING (Mathematician, logician, cryptanalyst and computer scientist in the early 20th century)
Fight 8
KURTZ (the psycho guy in "Heart of Darkness" and "Apocalypse Now")

You are so on my wavelength Trace.....I got the Cinefex with Clu on the cover because I knew they would have cool shots and stuff. I was totally killing my vision to make those names out. I am not able to make out the names of the programs in the lighcycle race other than Clu and Sam Flynn. BTW I heard that Rinzler was named in honor of author J.W. Might be interesting to also try and get a list of the names that appear on the light cycle grid? I'll re-post this pic that shows Sam's name as a starting point for that endeavor, if you're wondering. I haven't seen the Digital Domain vid yet, but looking forward to it.
EDIT: Sorry, hard to see here since the forum re-sizes it smaller, unfortunately. So, an almost "nevermind."

That is what I was saying Traahn....They have that shot as well as the Disc Wars marquee in the Cinefex mag but it is still hard to read. All I could make out was Sam Flynn and Clu. Under Clu's name it lists his comrades as Sentry in successive order. abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion "Word to the Motherboard!" - IsoLine |

Thanks for burning the eyestrain for the info in this thread.
The information while not life altering (Well maybe for Trace #) is very
cool and adds just another little layer of depth to this awesome film.
Trace the WULF name on the roster is pretty cool considering what you
have mentioned about your fic. Just think many of the warriors that day in
the grid likely survived to another games-day thanks to Sam's interference
with Rinzler. Maybe even Wulf.)

Yeah, we knew Unknown is Sam but maybe Urban is for actor Karl Urban who played Bones McCoy in the new Star Trek and perhaps Hurd is for Gale Ann Hurd the Hollywood Producer and Writer.
