So after reading TRON Betrayal and then playing TRON Evolution, I am confused as to the name change for Ophelia. Since Betrayal came first, I assume she is originally Ophelia, and at some point prior to 1989, took on the name Radia instead, even though she looked the same in both Betrayal part 2 and Evolution. Is an explanation ever given anywhere as to why she changed her name?

I now have this hunch that Giles, the other ISO leader in Betrayal, changed his name, too. To Jalen. After all, he isn't seen in Evolution aside from in passing and as the corrupted Abraxas virus. And according to what Radia says, he seems to be the same as Giles in terms of capacity.

So why the name changes? I know why Zuse became Castor, but I don't see why Ophelia and maybe Giles would have done this, since they never survived the Purge nor had to go "underground".

My theory is that Ophelia and Giles are their chosen names, whereas when they became the leaders of the ISO's they chose new names to differentiate themselves from their former identities. So Ophelia chose her name to be Radia and Giles chose his name to be Jalen.

Well, then we get into the issue of the other games, most notably the DS version of Evolution which takes place in 85 according to the timeline. The second issue of Betrayal has to take place in at least 85 because that's when Jordan died. Radia is present in the DS version of Evolution and also in the second issue of Betrayal (the endign may I add also takes place years later than the beginning of the issue, so possibly 88) . But in Betrayal, they call her Ophelia, yet notice, the only one who does so is Flynn. Which makes me think, that's the name that Flynn always knew her as, so of course he'd call her that, she was basically his student after all (explained in the Tron files of Evolution).

When she changed her name to Radia, it was to give herself a public presence as a leader separate from the identity of the normal ISO everyone knew. The Jalen/Giles debate is beyond my reasoning at the moment because there can be SO many possibilities, but I'd like to think my reasoning is solid...
Sorry if I seem pushy with my reasoning here, its pure speculation, but if anyone agrees or has a counterpoint PLEASE tell me xD

Get the files for Abraxas and Radia. The Abraxas file says that he (Jalen) was one of the first ISOs alongside Ophelia, and was taken under the wing of Flynn. Radia's file states that she was educated by Flynn as well, and her date of emergence is given as TC29, the same time as Jalen's emergence. It seems as though they were the first ISO's.

Abraxas
Virus. Formerly an Alpha-clas ISO known as Jalen.
Emerged from Sea of Simulation in TC29. Originally adopted by Kevin Flynn for intensive study regarding unknown nature of ISOs. Received advanced education in User culture from Flynn alongside of fellow ISO, Ophelia, and slated for ordination into System Administration. Thought to be derezzed during a unusually violent accident during a Grid Game tournament in TC296; in truth, was secretly taken captive and corrupted by Clu into highly unstable virus.
Able to manipulate and transform all forms of energy. Can spread infection to other programs with a single touch. Proficient in disc combat. Expert-class privilege in Light Cycle operation granted.
