Of course I'm a big original TRON fan, but I also loved TRON LEGACY. I loved how the filmmakers borrowed from other films and tv shows that they liked and gave those a nod in this film.

First off, I noticed that the story had alot of similarities with the TRON 2.0 and KILLER APP games. FLYNN missing, the mention of TRON LEGACY, a boss fight with THORNE in the PROGRESS BAR (END OF LINE CLUB). The whole father son thing was obviously switched from ALAN and JET to SAM and KEVIN FLYNN. MERCURY was QUORRA version one. The whole virus portion was pushed out into a new TRON game EVOLUTION and THORNE is changed into ABRAXAS. I'm glad they didn't totally use everything from that story though. As much as I liked TRON 2.0, I wanted more FLYNN and TRON for my money, with LEGACY I got that!

CLU scared the crap out of me with his whole WORLD WAR 2 HITLER thing. CLU being in our world was the big threat of LEGACY and if he got out with his crazy neon war machine, it would have been insane!

I really loved the whole BATMAN thing going on with QUORRA and her Quorramobile escaping to the FLYNNCAVE! I loved the Obi-wan Kenobi nod when FLYNN shows up at the END OF LINE CLUB. I really loved the nods to the original TRON film especially!

I'm also a big fan of two 80's TV shows that heavily borrowed from TRON in 84 and 85 respectively. The first one, AUTOMAN borrowed the most from TRON as AUTOMAN's whole body glowed a strange blue. He didn't wear a hockey helmet though, but he still looked cool. AUTOMAN also had a sidekick CURSOR, who was esentially a BIT from TRON. AUTOMAN would command CURSOR to "REZ UP" a vehicle for him and officer Walter Nebicer to chase the bad guys. Some of the vehicles include the autocar (a lamborghini), the autocopter (a bell ranger), the autocycle (possibly a honda), and quite possibly the coolest vehicle in the series... the autoplane, which was basically the autocar with wings! These vehicles all had the LEGACY look as they were black with glowing blue edge lines to define what they looked like. The car, bike, copter, and plane would also make abrubt 90 degree angle turns and usually toss Walter (sitting in the passenger seat) face first into the window! The funny thing about AUTOMAN was that he was a program that could exist in the real world as a hologram. In LEGACY when CLU speaks to his minions about his plan to travel to the real world and dominate it, I grinned because I immediatley thought of AUTOMAN turned evil!

The other TV show, STREETHAWK also used a LEGACY type look in that JESSIE MACH would wear a special black riding suit with white lines and a special italian racing helmet with auto-retracting faceplate. The bike itself was more like KNIGHT RIDER in that it had several guns, a laser, a jumpjet, and missles. The other thing the bike had was a computer assisted mode called HYPERTHRUST that would count down and launch STREETHAWK into incredible speeds at which the bike would make 90 degree LIGHTCYCLE type turns as in TRON.

I really loved these shows and don't know whether the makers of TRON LEGACY borrowed from AUTOMAN for CLU'S evil plot to come into the real world, or even borrowed STREETHAWKS cool outfit for the basis of their new suits, but either way, being a fan of all three, you can imagine how happy I am with TRON LEGACY!
