This is driving me nuts but did anyone happen to notice when Rinzler fell into the server sea in Legacy that his disc was missing off his back? Stranger still, where did Quorra get that grappling hook she used to swing to Sam's side at the portal? And this is the kicker. Is there some sort of connection between the grappling hook Rinzler used at Zeus's bar to get Kevin's disc and Rinzler's lack of a disk when he turned back into Tron?
I think anyone who is assuming that either of them died is in for a big surprise after a closer look at these observations. Now if I can only make sense of this. It was a plain Black Guard who took Kevin's Disk, who shortly after was derezzed by Castor who took the disk.
Rinzler lost both of his disks during his second encounter with Sam Flynn.
Quorra kicks Rinzler and he slides back and both of his disk fall down from the ledge they were on.

I'm pretty sure it was a Black Guard that snagged Flynn's disc and not Rinzler... because it was the black gaurd now holding Flynn's disc that was shot from behind by Castor whom then took Flynn's disc...
The baton which Quorra has (like the Black Guards and most other Programs have) can rez-up different tools, like the sword, a grapple, a long staff, a light cycle...

Interesting, I didn't notice Rinzler was missing his discs either.

It was a member of the Black Guard. If it had been Rinzler, Castor wouldn't have killed him and Rinzler would have killed him.
And the Baton being a multi-purpose tool is correct. One of the co-producers talks about it on Disney D23's Armchair Archivist in this video.
