regardless of how people feel about the end result, the amount of work and drive to bring us the film cannot be denied.

Hmm. Part of the Article seems wrong. While we used Vray for pretty much almost everything in the movie, save for certain effects from Houdini (storm or mantra) for effects like the fireworks, disc, trails/heat, derezzing, etc, I think the CLU head was rendered in mental ray. This is because of the pipeline that was built from Benjamin Buttons which was transferred to Tron.

We did use Vray for vehicles, the world, etc but the one thing I think we used mental ray for was for using DD's custom SSS shader passes setup from Benjamin Buttons. I'll try to verify that if I can.

Good article though. The rest is spot on.

i noticed clu's color was a more standard yellow and changed in post.
looks like the toys and merch got the color right in development and changes occurred.

so you work for digital domain?
i would love to pick your brain for hours on vfx.

i do a bit of it myself mainly getting stuck with roto and rig removal shots.

hopefully the new issue of cinefx is loading with more of this info, the actual production and solid info is what i'm looking for even tho i do love the hell out of the production art book.
