Disney California Adventure has shops with TL stuff, there's a shop in Downtown Disney that has lots of shirts and the hoodies as well.
IDK what the deal with Walt Disney World or Epcot Center is, they should have they same stuff in at least one of their gift shops by now...
When all else fails, try Amazon.com or, there is alot of stuff is up on disneyliving's online store... |

Auric,
I get the sense that there are some bean counters at WDW that consider that Tron is the red-headed stepchild that should be put in time-out infinitely. Now that Tron is coming back out with TL, some of them probably want to put that child in time-out even more, and are ashamed.
If anything, I'd think that WDW would at least be a prime place for all things Tron and Tron Legacy - just sayin'. order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill

Another Floridian here saying that it is a Tron Legacy-desert here at WDW. My wife works at Hollywood Studios so I've been to WDW probably 3 times this month. Like someone else mentioned, the employees don't even know what I'm talking about when I ask. One said, "We don't know anything until the day it shows up". Lovely. I guess we got the yellow and blue monorails which is cool....kinda.
But the absence of Tron Legacy support at EPCOT is mind-boggling. I mean, this is Disney's tech/electronic flagship park! What better place of all Disney parks to blow-out with Tron Legacy than the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow???
I'm going back there again next week. Here's hoping...

The Grid. A digital frontier. I tried to picture clusters of information as they moved through the computer. What did they look like? Ships? Motorcycles? Were the circuits like freeways? I kept dreaming of a world I thought I'd never see. And then, one day. I got in. |

That one's not too shocking really. IMO, EPCOT stopped being about the future the moment GM thought it'd be cool to turn an attraction, that filled people with hope and an awe-inspiring look at the future, into a demonstration of what it's like to be a crash dummy in a modern auto factory (ho hum). EPCOT might as well now mean "Expensive Product Commercials Overwhelming Tourists." When it was created, having companies sponsor the exhibits made perfect sense, but that was back when competition yielded progress. Build a better mouse trap, and all that (sorry, Mickey). But we live in an age where the path to profit is not building a better mouse trap, but building a cheaper one. As a result, companies don't look to the future anymore, and they don't want us to either, because under the current system of thinking, 1000 years from now will either look exactly the same as the present, or it'll look like a global ghost town because humanity has self-destructed. Forget the stuff that was in Horizons and World of Motion back in the golden era. Nobody thinks that way anymore. Sadly. '> |

What would they be ashamed of TL then? Do they know something we don't? Or are the marketing folks at WDC and Disneyland that stupid not to capitalize on it?
Unless they want to play it safe and see how well it turns out and then proceed with the merchandise or ride? |

Sounds completely idiotic to "wait." Why release TRON at the end of the year if you're not going to capitalize on the Christmas season? The holidays are a huge deal for this kind of thing, and I have trouble fathoming anyone even remembering the movie a year down the road. Not that it won't still make a big splash, but who is going to be putting TRON stuff on their Santy list a year after the movie is out?

Disney is going a great job with their promotion of Tangled. I've seen numerous TV spots and merchandise.
I've found their promotion for Tron Legacy to be lacking.

Anyone else wonder if the empty seats that we all saw at Tron night has anything to do with this? Is it possible that Disney is doing some surveys behind the scenes, found that the hype is falling below expectations, so they're pulling their punches a little?

Here's the problem. First, I have the 20th anniversary TRON dvd several years ago that I got so I'm quite fortunate to have it and have seen the original in 1982. I keep hearing how stores are out of the TRON dvds and I'm thinking that it is actually rare, but not impossible to find. However, with today's home media products, it sounds like Disney wants to go with two versions. One of Blu Ray which is the special edition and the other is the standard DVD of the original TRON.
In a way, they are wise not to toot their horns too loudly right now because I don't blame them for the leery feeling they have about 1982 repeating over again and the un-educated fanbase thinking it's another "Matrix" or fanboys raving Matrix>TL when they have no CLU that TRON is the granddaddy of all CGI movies that started it all.
It's a delicate line to balance out and I know Toys R Us and WalMart and other online venues are selling TL toys/merchandise for the moment.
I think going 'dark' right now is a smart move to keep people guessing and then whack them hardcore in December with TL. I think they're trying to differentiate themselves from Cameron's supposed 'horn tooting' on Avatar that, I hear, has great CGI but lacking in substance/story.
The last thing Disney wants to do is look like a bunch of jacka$$es, otherwise their confidence level is high enough to warrant suspicion that this movie must be this damn good to make everyone forget about Avatar (another thing I think why Cameron's re-releasing it).
They must be scared of TL that could make people forget Avatar. |

I dunno. They have a lot of merchandise for TL. However, TL has got to be one of the most "Mature" (for grown-ups) franchises under the Disney label (and not Touchstone or some other studio). Maybe it's easier to market kids' stuff like Tangled.
I was at EPCOT with my family a few months ago in June and was also very disappointed. My heart sank when I saw that the beautiful Living Seas pavilion was turned into that crappy Finding Nemo ride. What the hell happened to their bragging rights over their five million gallon tank and the restaurant they had with the huge glass wall with a stunning view into the tank? I must've made that up because all I saw was "Turtle Time with Crush" Gaaa!
Also, not a blip of TL influence anywhere. One of the monorails had the lightcycle on it but that was it. Sheesh, slap some glowing paint on a building and shine some black lights on it fer crissakes. It wouldn't have taken any more effort than went into most of the pavilions there. If Disney ever tears down one of its parks, it'll be EPCOT.
Ok, rant almost over. I'd think that with all the recent advances in biotech, physics, clean energy, global warming, nanotech, and so on, Disney could remake EPCOT into another world class mind blowing science center. Didn't Walt say it would ever be changing? It hasn't. How about a display in Communicore that shows just how many people 500 million FaceBook users really are and cover the walls and ceiling and floors with video monitors packed with videos of people's faces? I'd think Disney could even adopt the look and architecture of TL for EPCOT. Even if the movie bombed badly, it's still a very pretty place.
Done now.

This is interesting, maybe the people's interest isn't that high, but how can it be if Disney is not going all out with marketing. I remember seeing that darn 'Devil' trailer on tv every 30 minutes.

Most likely. I wonder what kind of feedback they are getting from the test audience screenings. If you haven't done one of these before, they go to malls and randomly (or not so randomly) ask people if they would like to attend a free screening. Sometimes the tell you what type of movie it is but you won't know what the title is until the film starts rolling.
Nielsen has a "movie partnership calculator" that can be used to match movies with specific demographic targets. I can't access it because I am not a member.
Here is something from the article "Movie Marketers, Meet Your Ideal Audience::
"According to Nielsen’s calculator, males and females under 25 share a taste for raunchy comedies and franchise horror flicks, like “Role Models” and “Saw V”"- Nielsen Wire
Something else of nterest:
"Getting a larger share of adults aged 25 and older to go to the movies may be a tall order, because leisure time is increasingly spent at home as we age, Austin says. "It seems there's nothing the movie industry can do to pry these people out of their homes and into theaters,' he says. "That's especially true as we have more delivery systems for movies"" -Going to the movies by Shannon Dorch
IMO the primary draw right now to TL is DP. What is going to happen on opening weekend is that the movie may make it to #2 or even #1 box office, but will quickly fall off the next week after word gets out to the other DP fanboys that TL isn't a music video. TL might not even open in the top 3 if the majority DP fans buy the soundtrack instead of going to the theater.

I FINALLY saw Avatar the other night and couldn't help thinking, "Gee, wasn't this story in Dances with Wolves?" Cameron also threw in his "global warming/climate change" message, but that is an unpleasant topic.
The CGI was very good, but that could be due to the fact that all of the CGI stuff was either mechanical/inanimate objects or unfamiliar alien creatures so uncanny valley really wasn't an issue.
