Could someone fill me in with more info on this, and did people really react like "Blue Sky Blog" is saying? Is this just heresay or what?
I mean it goes to show how immature and ignorant alot of people can be and don't understand a film made nearly 30 yrs ago. To laugh at it's VFX? Where all these people at the screening under 30? Where they mostly 13 - 21 year olds?
To laugh at the costumes and VFX, well that's as stupid as laughing at great classic films like Forbidden Planet, Star Wars (1977), and others just bacause it doesn't look like modern 2010 CGI VFX or isn't filled with violent, frenetic action and explosions every 10 minutes.
It's sad that people have become numbed to and ignorant of real *art* and good classic films like TRON and laugh at inappropriate moments (if that what actually happened).
This article kind of reeks of heresay, so it's hard to tell how accurate it's claims are. I could see laughing at the goofy akwardness and extreme campiness of "Barbarella" or "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" and it's very low-budget, cheap effects, but TRON?
What the FRAK is wrong with some people and kids today? Must Too much frakin' FPS, over-done CGI, and violent & gory SAW crap? Seems like it.... wow. It really almost infruraiting that the some at Disney may be allowing this small audience of immature kids and d**chebags influence them into delaying the release of TRON on BluRay until way after Tron Legacy. How about an early release promotion set up for all the real TRON fans to enroll to pre-order TRON on blu-ray that they can get early? F**** the mainstream, let us buy it ffs. >:-( |

Thanks for fixing the link, jonwes. No problem.
Now that I've seen the video, I like Lisberger's explanations. I agree that the glow efx have always had an emotional component, as witnessed at a few times when the glow effect gets stronger in anger, or when drinking from the pure source, etc. And I actually look forward to seeing if he did that at more times throughout in the Blu-Ray version. For instance, intensify or diminish the glow at moments of anger, love, excitement, affection, despair, etc.
If anyone else was confused about the Blue Sky Blog references, I think it's referring to this: http://blueskydisney.blogspot.com/2010/10/tron-blu-s.html
Word has it that earlier this summer the original Tron was screened at one of the theme parks and was laughed at by people who had not seen the original film and mocked it for its now-outdated effects and silly attire of leotards and hockey helmets parodied by the infamous "Tron Guy." Rumor has it that some Disney execs witnessed their reactions and it made them very, very nervous.
Understandable since they've spent millions marketing their "new and improved" Tron Legacy which they hope will be embraced by a new generation of fans. Since then plans to release the original Tron on blu-ray to generate interest in the sequel seem to have been scrapped out of fear that this product of a by-gone era would backfire and turn off their vital demographic from flocking to theaters to see Tron Legacy in December.
Word has it the original Tron will not be released now until sometime next year around the time Legacy is released on DVD and Blu-ray, long after all the box office grosses for Legacy are in.
...
Is Disney deliberately trying to sweep memories of it (the original Tron) under the rug to be forgotten so that Legacy will be received as the definitive start of a new franchise? The very thought of it gives me pause and sends a shudder of discomfort up my spine. It almost seems like they are trying to re-write the program.
End of Line.
