Terrible remake.
This movie just didn't respect the story of the original and just basterdized Greek mythology and reduced it into
over-blown dodgy CG creature feature.
The terrible storyline that is basically a knock off of the videogame "God of War".
It complete ditched the original storyline main focus of a naive but brave fisherman falling in love with Andromeda and is driven by his love for her to find a way to destroy the Kraken to save her life, and save the city which Hera will command Poseidon to unleash the Kraken upon.
The whole storyline gets twisted into a cheap revenge plot with the new Perseus being overly angry and hateful of the olympian gods. What's the deal with a modern day marine soldier hair cut on Perseus, in historical terms only prisoners, and eunics had their hair shaven like that (often with a sharpened brozne knife).
Perseus looked more like a modern miltary soldier in ROMAN legionaires armor than a humble strong and brave greek fisherman from a village like in the original.
Hades who was in no way a part of the original movie's plot is thrown into this remake and his very character is twisted into a pathetic, stereotypical evil villain.
In my view as a lover of Greek lore and mythology is a disgusting mockery of Greek mythos as Hades is *not* actually evil in greek mythology.
Hades has his "flaws" yes, but make sense when one understand the symbolic, alegorical aspects in Greek lore; he wasn't some god driven to kill others for his own gain.
But in this movie they characterized him as such, shown him to being some "evil" petulant jerk.
All the gods are mis-characterized, and Zeus in overly shiny armor that looks straight out of the anime "Saint Seiya:Warriors of the Zodiac" and "Excaliber" is ridicoulous and out-of-place.
Calabos the main, tragic villian of the original is reduced to a bit character, and he looks kind of like a half burn scared Klingon.
Really, I recommend that people don't bother watching this film. The 3-D is a lame attempt to cash in on the new "3-D is now cool" trend. But since it was not filmed with digital 3-D cameras, but converted to 3-D after the fact, it doesn't make any difference to making the movie look better.
The acting was average to stiff, Liam Neeson was protayal as an over-angry King of the Gods acted more like ARES than Zeus and his talents as and actor are really under-utilized.
The true magic, charm, and noble side of the original film is disgarded, and the true essense of Greek lore is all but shredded in this remake, and that really urked me.
If you grew up in the 80's, and love classic cult fantasy films like "Jason and the Argonauts", and if you liked (or loved) and enjoyed the original "Clash of the Titans" from 1981, you will be very, very disappointed in this remake.
This remake just really urked me...
I am usually fairly lenient when a movie is respectful of the lore and story of the original source material, but this movie just isn't.
This film did *not* need to be made IMO. 1 star out of 5.

I'm with you on this one.
I saw it over the weekend since I was really really bored. Its my first time seeing a 3d movie in theaters, but yea it looked cool,...so did those View Masters back in the 80's(which to me is a lot better) LOL.. The only thing that I really enjoyed, was of course the showing of the Tron preview in 3D. But everything you said hit it all on the nail.

did not see yet but apparently Luke Evans who plays Apollo is now playing Zeus in Immortals/War Of The Gods, also starring Mickey Rourke as Hyperion. Tarsem Singh is directing. Definitely looking forward...

I barely remembered the original but I'm not really sure what to make of this new one-- I saw it on Wed and was wondering why the heck Sam's hair was so SHORT for a Greek hero.
What was especially more confounding about the whole thing with Andromeda. She felt like such a throw-away character and I kept thinking the other chick (lack of captions in theatres completely screw me over here) was a Greek goddess or something, lol!

Apparently there is a massive amount of stuff that ended up on the cutting room floor that would have made the movie completely different.
When will film execs realise that you CANT make a movie from the board room , and that 99% of the time, the director know what they are doing (unless its Uwe Boll!)
