Windows 7 security issue on Saturday, February, 20, 2010 2:47 PM
I started up my Windows 7 laptop today and, for whatever reason, the firewall and both Norton and Windows Defender will not turn on automatically and I can't seem to turn them on manually. Anyone have any idea what's going on?
Other issues I'm having:
-Wifi logo in system tray doesn't show I'm connected to a network, even if I am. Always indicates it's searching for one if my Wifi antenna is turned on. I was able to go to various websites while it was like this.
-Doubleclicking the Wifi/internet icon in the system tray does nothing. I can, however, right click it and open up a list allowing me to troubleshoot or go to the Network and Sharing center.
-Network and sharing center doesn't work. Accessing it in the manner previously mentioned brings up the window with nothing but white space. This window seemingly cannot be closed as the X button does nothing and right clicking on its taskbar icon and clicking close just gives me the "dink!" sound that essentially means "no" in Vista/7. Mousing over the window gives me the mouse/hourglass icon. I can close it from task manager.
-Going into control panel and clicking Firewall makes the same thing happen as in the last issue.
-Doubleclicking the Norton desktop icon does absolutely nothing.
-Right clicking the Norton icon and choosing run as administrator gives me the confirm operation window, but then nothing.
-Opening Action Center gives me an error that reads:
::{226EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}\5\::{BB64F8A7-BEE7-4E1A-AB8D-7D8273F7FDB...
The remote procedure call failed and did not execute.
-Got the same message when I tried to open Windows Explorer
All of this started happening after I installed the included Norton trial. Thanks in advance.
Edit: Got Windows Defender running. Doing a full scan.
