Okay, now that I got that out of my system.
Does anybody know any good way to bring back a disk partition I accidentally just deleted? A reputable free tool online perhaps?
And now a personal note to Microsoft...
Dear Microsft,
I'd like to thank you for re-labeling my disk partitions when I use your Windows XP CD to delete partitions on my computer. For some reason, you name my D: partition the E: partition in your fancy tool. (I thought E: was for my CD Drive? That's what it always shows up as when I'm using my computer). And you label my F: partition the D: partition. As a result, I just deleted my F: partition. Thanks much. You rock.
Sincerely,
Someone who just lost many family and friend photos; a lot of original Photoshop artwork; a lot of original Lightwave models. Somehow it can take your great OS an hour to uninstall a 13GB program (Flight Simulator X), yet you're able to wipe clean an 80GB hard drive in a second flat. Good job.
I can't believe this.
I'm getting out of here right now, and you guys are invited. -----^ |

Yeah, Fdisk will often relabel drives. (Okay, it's not called Fdisk any more . . . but that's essentially what it is. ) It ignores the optical ones, and if you boot from the XP CD I think it creates a RAM drive. All of which causes the letters to shift around.
There are a bunch of free partition recovery tools. If you move quickly, you can save that partition without losing any data. Fdisk just tells the OS to ignore the data that's there, and pretend like it's empty so it can write over it again.
A couple of them are TestDisk and Partition Table Doctor. Although it's probably not necessary, you might want to download and burn a bootable CD version rather than install a program.
EDIT: Forget Partition Table Doctor, it turns out the free demo version is really limited. Lame.

Just call me a miracle worker like Scotty from the original star trek. I think this one will do it is linked into the wiki pages online. But there is a section where you can go from there to download for windows, Macs, Linux distro, and that good old fashioned OS/2 Warp.

To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.

Nice guys! TestDisk is working!! The process is a bit slow and painful since I'm trying to recover about 80GB of data onto a 30GB drive with only about 5-10GB of working space available on it :P (copy to D drive... burn DVD... copy to D drive... burn to DVD, etc.), but who am I to complain when I'm recovering all my prized files?order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pillwhere to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

Hm, hate it when that happens. Recently I added a new hdd, for some reason windows decided to relabel that to my "I:" drive. (it's already there!) Dunno, maybe I skipped a step.. but I called it J:, only to find I: missing.
I look for my programs, then notice hey, where's I:? I looked in the disk manager, and relabled that drive back to I:.. I knew which files were on it luckily, my pinnacle studios being the most important.
Just an FYI if you suddenly find a partition and/or programs missing, look in your admin tools/disk manager and see if there's a new partition letter.. |

I think there is a way of renaming it to a different drive letter there. I remember mocing around certain drive letters around here on both windows XP, Vista and windows 7 over here. It's juts a means of bringing the two cd or dvd roms as the lst characters of the drives and pput in the data drive as the next letters taht you want. Mind you. 400-500_ gig drives I usually carry a lot of data over here. Even transposed them to my external drives over heref for backups.

hmmm.... I was under the impression that once a partition was deleted, the data on that partition and the partition itself can not be recovered.... but I never really investigated it much at all.

I'm glad it worked for you. I'll have to add this app to my collection of disk tools. It'll be good to have it if/when I may need it.

Qixx I think it might be on the second back up of the masterboot record or something it might be using some kind of algorythm of some sort to reconstruct it from there and brng it back up as the original back up was. Don't forget there is a hidden MBR to work from as well on these fangled hard drives ;D

Yeah, I lucked out. I thought all my stuff was gone, but it was pretty easy to bring the stuff back -- but slow like I said. I'm pretty sure it managed to find and let me bring back everything I had on the partition I deleted. I can't think of any files I wasn't able to see and bring back. Hallelujah!
