The Conduit review

on Monday, June, 29, 2009 1:20 AM
The Conduit is a game that has been anticipated by many Wii gamers. High Voltage Software's Wii-exclusive FPS has been in the making for about 3 years. When you start the first level of The Conduit, you'll notice immediately how much effort has gone into this game. You wake up (after being knocked out by what I assume was an explosion), only to look up out of the blasted ceiling of a subway tunnel to see the Washington Monument with a huge gaping hole in the top of it, which, as explained by the instruction manual, was due to a terrorist attack several weeks prior. Lighting plays a huge role here, there's a huge glare from the sun beaming in from behind the monument, and it creates an incredibly realistic and terrifying image unseen in other Wii titles.

First off, this game looks amazing. High Voltage's graphic engine allows for advanced lighting and visual effects unseen in other Wii games. However, the framerate does drop a bit sometimes, but it's not really enough of a drop to draw away from the gameplay, which is the real centerpiece of this game.

I'm going to use a metaphor to describe the gameplay in The Conduit. Take Goldeneye (the N64 game), strap it to a table, inject every steroid ever into it, somehow eliminate every negative side effect, and you have The Conduit. Gameplay isn't really too special, it's more or less "Run from point A to point B and shoot everything that moves". But the unique weapons you find later in the game, in combination with the inclusion of major landmarks such as the Library of Congress, along with the "All Seeing Eye" item make this game very fun. I played the Conduit for about an hour, then played Goldeneye. Both felt just as fun, The Conduit having a lead due to Wiimoterry.

I can't really say too much about The Conduit's storyline without spoiling some major plot elements. All I can really say is that there's a ton of plot twists, everything you see is a story element, and it's kinda like National Treasure meets Half Life 2. That's about all I can say. The storyline is very strong and is very present throughout the entire game. I also can't really comment on the multiplayer. IGN says it's very good, and I saw an XP leveling system somewhere in the menus.

The Conduit is a must-buy. I hear the main campaign is approx. 5 and a half to 8 hours of gameplay + an achievement system. Worth $50? Definitely.order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill

I'm really glad I'm not the only one here that is enjoying the game.

I've completed single player, and re-doing missions to get the weapon and secrets achievements. I'm having a blast. I like googling terms and learning about all the things referenced in the hidden messages that are like puzzle pieces that when put together uncover a underlying story that is pretty darn cool.
I listened to all the radio and tv broadcasts. Broadcasts form "Timothy Browning" (a spoof of Rush Limbaugh), and George Wells a conspiracy talk show hosts that spoofs the likes of Alex Jones and Georgy Noony.

Multiplayer is fun as heck too, even though I kind of suck at it. It's hard for me to survive and get some kills, hardest being free for all death matches.
Notice the Tron-like glowing displays and trace lines on Ford's suit? Look pretty slick I think.

Pretty good review btw. Vastly better than alot of the contrived and very questionable "professional" reviews I've read. IGN's review was the best written, well thought out, reasonable and mostly pretty fair. The same can't be said for some the other reviews I've read.

Please add me and post yours as well.
I'd like to play Team Reaper for a change. For me A.S.E. football and bounty hunter are pretty fun.

I haven't really tried multiplayer yet, so it's nice to hear that it's really fun. I also really enjoy the radio broadcasts. Those are fun to listen to. I should really bring out the ASE more often, because I haven't seen any secret messages yet, lol.

I read IGN's review, but I enjoyed their video review better:

"If you've ever played an FPS game with bad controls *cough*redsteel* then you know exactly how important control is in FPS games."

I'll post my friend code when I finish single player and start playing multiplayer. I rented the ghostbusters game from a local Blockbuster store and I need to finish that, too, lol.

Based on what I've experienced so far, however, it's Goldeneye on steroids. And I say that because I've never played Perfect Dark (a horrid crime, indeed). It's good old-fashioned FPS glory, and it works.

I really like the Deatomizer-class weapons. Specifically the Mk-4. One of the coolest FPS guns I've seen.
