File Security

on Sunday, May, 17, 2009 11:38 PM

I accidentally deleted a folder, but was luckily able to retrieve it from the Recycling Bin. To prevent this, I was wondering if there were some way I could make the folder and its contents impossible to delete unless a password was used or something along those lines. But, I modify the folder often so nothing too tedious please. Thanks!

OniellFord tried that once. He accidentally locked himself out of all of his files, though, lol.

what o.s.?

if its an NTFS system wouldnt disabling 'full control' and 'modify' permissions (leaving 'read' and 'write' enabled) have that effect?

dont know about unix/linux - ive never done anything beyond basic chmod-ing

Under Linux/Unix Xhmod is good for doing that. I am using linux on another jard drive on my laptop to make it easier to do things in. But that is the right direction for read/write and what ever else you need to do with it. Under windows right click and properties of the folder in question. And just give it read and write permissions only. ANd no modifications for it. That is for windows NT on up. It might be slightly different under different versions of windows NT on up. Modifications would not have a checkmark on it. That is for sure. Since I think but could be wrong as well. That it might block it from being deleted from the drive and put it into the recycling bin. Give it a try and see. Just make sure that you hghlight that it is the general user account who is going to be using it. Like a general user login in for it. WHich should do the trick.

I had similar programs where I was trying to get a read write enable for a directory on a windows 2003 and 2008. So I can of relate to what you are saying since I had to go in as the admin of the server in order to do it over here. And it will populate the rest of the files that are in that folder as well. Since it is the global settings from that folder on down withing that directory.

Compucore

VROOOOOOOOOMMMM!!!

To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.
