@Achilles: Don't worry, It's not like they're hiring crummy newb student talent such as...yeah ._.;...tough competition. |
such as who - me...? no competition im sure dude is many times more awesome at whatever he does than i could ever be. i only got as far as i did with gfx, etc because i have talented friends - folks who i would have liked to have seen be a part of this - unfortunately i was never able to get any of them interested enough to try to get involved (and i did try - a little - even had to argue over which was more awesome - Tron or The Last Starfighter...). dudes are just more invested in trying to develop new, original ideas instead of hopping on what they perceive as a 'nostalgia cash grab' bandwagon. i totally respect that - but i was mesmerized by Tron since i was little so i have to live with it
but yeah i dint mean to upset neone i just thought the thread/post was funny. hope dude helps bring it right otherwise he's going to make me look bad

No worries. Thought your comments were funny, so I had to chime in. I agree with you on originality thing and 3D skillz. I'm a kindergärtner compared to my collegues of the same age. That's pretty much what I meant by that comment . There's a lot of people I know who love Tron, but prefer to make original work verses nostalgia or tributes.
I'm cold and calculating. Don't press my buttons.

Yea, I wish I had the opportunity to get into that field. I just contribute when I have time unfortunately.. but I think the tributes and stuff for Tron is almost untouched, under-rated, and far n' few. that's why I do them in the first place. I can say with honesty I have very few links to fan based/Tron based videos.
Cool wolves Achilles, I used to see life size models like that when I was like 6-7 when I lived in Santa Fe. Seeing them makes me want to make one!

i agree. like i said i tried to convince friends of mine (already in the comic, gaming, digital media biz) to try and get involved but they weren't interested, or they know too much how the industry works and know better than to waste their time/efforts
actually one guy i know (who i wont name only because he gets flamed a lot on the web and im not going to feed the fire) told me he tried to pitch a tron-related idea to disney a few years ago but couldnt ever get a call back from anyone. may or may not have been bull$#!+ing - but he does have his own 'concept' that he managed to get made into a pretty slick cg short. he's still shopping it apparently - even as recently as the last ny comic con - none of our other mutual friends have had the heart to tell him (to his face) that maybe he needed to move on and try another idea. he's got the technical talent at least...

Cool, well on that topic friends of mine who were collaborating on the mods and myself wanted to buy a license to get the ball rolling with Tron 2.0, but like you said..
..and you have to have investors who are willing to take direction for things to come together.

This sounds familiar to me, and I can't imagine what I'd do if I were in that guys shoes. I know the few who have done this haven't had it easy from what I've heard. I'd have thought he should apply to work on the new film, then move up through those channels.
My take is that Tron related stuff is very expensive and time consuming. And without having several million - all of the community needs to be involved, not just one guy or people who nobody knows from adam. Not that that is the case every time... but the pulse of the community should be stronger and more like a family to get something marketable out there. So That's where the gaming folks came into it, most of the original guys who contributed so much time and stuff want to make it using what they love -the qualities of making a game like this we can enjoy for years and grass root efforts would set a good prescident for future games ect. Most people I talk to know that.
I just hope this up and coming Tron franchise gives back to those who like making games with quality tools and a killer multiplayer game.

well if you were in his shoes you probably wouldn't care, just like him - because your family would be wealthy and youd still have a hot russian wife to make you look legit as you had pictures taken of yourself hanging out on major movie sets looking like serious business. and you could post phony interviews that you conducted with yourself to post on the web-zine that you created to promote your own work. or you could splice video footage of famous media figures with footage you took of yourself to brilliantly make it look as if you were actually on this person's show being interviewed. lol. i need to stop. i actually like the guy. but man...everyone that knows him agrees if he were to put his talent and skill at shameless manipulation to something other than self-promotion he could probably make something awesome happen that would be worth remembering.

Anyone here live in LA? and are somewhat artistic? Really though I'm looking for someone that can take direction well and is organized and not afraid to get glue all over their hands.
Someone that can work crazy hours, and be delicate enough to handle fine thread.
Just let me know if this is you...
