Hello. I picked up Tron 2.0 for the xbox at a Game Stop. I hadn't heard of it before (although I do have Tron 2.0 for the Nintendo Gameboy.) It was OK, but I felt like it could have been better. The light cycle courses were small and claustrophobic, and I don't get into first person shooters, really.
I then ordered the PC version of the game for the purpose of firing up some of the user created courses. The ones I have tried so far have been awesome. The one by AJ with the recognizer flying overhead is terrific. And the movie repro is fantastic. My hats off to the people who made these. They did an amazing job.
Being pretty new to this game, I have a couple of questions:
Does anyone maintain a list of user-created courses that allow you to play against the computer?
When people race light cycles online, is this being done over the internet? I have a computer upstairs that I use for gaming, but no Internet connection on it.
Is there any slowdown in the online light cycle action?
Thanks,
I'm looking forward to racing some of you at some point.

Hi digit, welcome to Tron-Sector.

That's because there aren't any.
Well, okay, that's not entirely true. There are two maps that have computer-controlled AI light cycles. But they're difficult to make, and have limited appeal in multiplayer. They never really caught on.
I have lists of all the user-created maps in my FAQ, with descriptions and sceenshots of them. It's slightly out of date at the moment, but only missing about four of the latest maps. (None of which have AI Light Cycles.) The two user-created maps with AI are "AI Arena Redux" and "Speedway AI".
But you need to play them in multiplayer mode, not single player or they won't work. I have a guide on how to play multiplayer maps by yourself.

Yes, you can ignore the game's warning about playing over the internet.

Occasionally. But as long as you have broadband and the server you connect to has a low enough ping, Light Cycles is completely playable over the internet and works quite well.

AI Arena Redux was the one that I found that had AI cycles. It's a phenomenal course. I just love the recognizer hovering overhead.
Yup. I read it. I've been browsing around here for the past week or so. That's how I knew that there were user created courses.
Am I right in thinking that there isn't anything in the official patch that isn't in the unofficial patch? I'm wondering if I should have both.
PS,
I'm thinking about making a freeware tron game for the atari 2600. It will involve the old-school tanks and/or recognizers. My first Atari 2600 homebrew, "the last mobile space battallion" went well. Well, it was a lot better than I thought it would be for a first project, anyway where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online REQUEST STATUS REPORT

Hope you don't mind that I edited your post. I know it can be tricky to use the quote tags. I still mess them up myself sometimes.

You only need one of them. After patching, in both cases each version is completely compatible with the other. People with the official version can play against people with the unofficial version.
But the unofficial patch has certain advantages, like being able to use more custom map packs at once. So, there's really no downside to using the unofficial version . . . unless you don't speak English. (The Killer App mod will change that. You'll be able to choose any language, and use it with the unofficial patch.)
I look forward to hearing more about your homebrew 2600 game. That's a really cool hobby.

Speaking of 2600 homebrew, I heard something about Atari wanting to put an end to 2600 homebrew just because they could or somethin...
Hope to see you on the game grid soon! You'll find me as TRON.dll.
Also, you can thank TronFAQ for the spectacular custom maps, not because he made them, but because his video tutorials are so incredibly in-depth that they beat the living crap out of any kind of official instruction book.

That's OK. I'm really quite new here. I'll try to do better this time. This would go a little better if there was a preview feature....

It is. It's really not all that difficult. Someone has created atari basic, which closely resembles traditional basic programming. Makes it pretty easy actually.
My idea is to try to replicate the space paranoids game that flynn was playing. I've requested a leave of absence from work for a while due to back trouble. That should give me ample time to create the game. I'd like to name the game "Recognizer."
If it turns out that it isn't doable, there are other options, such as creating a space invaders style game using a group of recognizers and a tank. That would actually be pretty easy. Well, we'll see how it goes.
On a side note, I just completed tron 2.0 xbox version. I think it's quite tragic that you can't go back and replay completed levels. And did anyone see any point in the emails that jet keeps receiving throughout the game. After a while I just stopped reading them. I thought sooner or later one of them would proclaim "Tron the arcade game unlocked!", but after a while I just couldn't see any purpose of reading them anymore.

Story advancement. I believe they summed up what happened from the ending of the Tron movie to the beginning of the Tron 2.0 game.

Are you actually burning proms with your custom atari code and playing the real hardware?

No. I'm afraid that's beyond my level of technical expertise. Probably too much for my wallet as well
The game I made was programmed with batari basic and then tested with various emulators. I made it last year. It only took a few weeks. There's people who are a lot more knowledgable about the whole atari 2600 homebrew scene than me. I'm a relative beginner.
