Could someone tell Nvidia to slow down a bit.... lol...
Here is a break down of their G-Force line from start to current.
Geforce 256 (sometimes referred to as the Geforce 1) - 1999
Geforce 2 - 2000
Geforce 3 - 2001
Geforce 4 - 2002
Geforce FX (a.k.a. Geforce 5) - 2002
Geforce 6 - 2004
Geforce 7 - 2005
Geforce 8 - 2006
That seems ok.. but now look at the major rush of this year.
Geforce 9 - 2008
Geforce GTX 280 - 2008
Geforce GTX 350 - 2008 (will be out by 4th Quarter)
So... this is what I'm getting at. If I have 600+ dollars and I want a new GFX card (and since I'm an Nvidia guy), should I just hold out till the GTX 350 is released?
The GTX 280 (which in some circles is being called as the Geforce 10280) is the successor of the Geforce 9. This is causing a little confusion for the Nvidia fan base and most of the folks I talk to had to make a double take because like me I was confusing it with their onboard chipset line.
Nevertheless, the GTX 280 came out so fast that the 9800 cards didn't even get a chance to age yet and now the GTX 350 series isn't going to give the 280 any breathing room what so ever.
I guess I'll wait till the Geforce GTX 350 series is out and reviewed before going that direction. I guess it's a good idea cause I'll be able to save up even more money and up the flavor of my new system. I just hate having to wait. I'm still running a Geforce FX 5980 for crying out loud.
I guess you ATI folks will have a say in this.. lol.. Which is welcomed by the way... Just understand that I've been a long term Nvidia guy ever since the Geforce 3 and sort of stuck with Nvidia ever since.... but if it's worth anything, I am an AMD guy too...

I guess they are fearing with some of the other video cards that are out there like with 3dlabs that do sell good videocards as well made for cad machine or Catia machine runnning some kind of unix environment. PLus they are super expensive in comparison to the Nvidia and to what ATI or diamond monster video cards.
For me I go with what I need to use with the only time that I needed a nvidia card was for the game troon 3.0 mainly for that game. For me who hardly plays games on any of my other systems I don't relly need a high powered video card like nvidia or 3dlabs have to offer so long as it does the job in displaying what I need in windows or linux for example.
My usual concerns is power in CPU and memory mainly. Widows vista latest venture really kills a system with the amount of ram, cpu and memory usage. If only Microsoft can learn from the Unix and linux communities on how to properly.

For me... I am a gamer (not as much these days but still). I use to be exclusive to 3Dfx back in the day but had no choice to switch to Nvidia since I sort of seen 3Dfx fade out when they decided against licensing their latter GPUs and Nvidia became a big deal at E3 one year.
I have a personal trust in their GPUs since I've never had one issue with them and my Geforce 5980 Ultra had such a very very very long lifetime. It was only with the release of Bioshock that it finally outlived it's usefulness in terms of new games. So for a system to hold out as long as it has is pretty good. It's nearing retirement.
I thought 3Dlabs fazed out their GPUs back in 2006, but I really don't know for sure, I'll have to look it up.
My eyes are on the GTX 280 and GTX 350 for now. I just wait for a bit and let the bench markers have a go at it first before I buy anything. That way I can get an idea if it's worth the money or not.
ATI has always made good GPUs so I always try to keep up with them... so I guess you can say that I'm not entirely bias... but in all truth, it just comes down to flavor....

I have a GTX 280 but i have the FTW edition which is factory over clocked to 670mhz.. The New 350's will still be 1024mb its the core clock that will be higher but not by much... I think they will be like 700+ ...
If you want to spend the 600.00 then id say wait for the 350.. If you want to spend like 499.99 you can get one of the 280 versions now... They are all 1024 its just the clock that they overclock...
My GTX 280 FTW rips apart the newest games.. I get incredible frame rates for CRYSIS:WARHEAD,BATTALEFIELD2142, F.E.A.R.,COD4,GEARS OF WARS,ASSAISNS CREED,ect.. i can play all these games at HIGHEST settings at 2080-1024 with 60 fps ... mine you to i have a QX9650 behind it...
Just one tid bit.. If you do get one of the new GTX260-280-350.. they now require your powersupply to have 8pin PCIe cord... If you dont have that then you will have to get a new powersupply... i know it sucks.... but they dont tell you that till you open the box!!!!

Yes 3dla did. I was on their website the oher day to see what was new with their products. I just remember when they were popular way back then when they were in demand for their video cards.

I got an GTX260 and am happy with its performance. Nice boost up in gaming from my old system of course which had a Matrox Parhelia Card. Crysis played well through most parts except near the end and in big battle portions. abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

My graphics card is integrated, and, being the noob that I am, I have no idea how much memory it has. One guy at the store told me 512MB, and another guy told me 256MB. Then I asked the 256MB guy if it'd run Portal and he said yes, so I was happy.
Kinda curious how much memory, though:
NVIDIA GeForce 8200
It works good enough for me.
Also, due to my computer's compact design and integrated graphics card, it's impossible to replace the card with a better one and add more RAM/Memory/drives.
This setup is what I'll be stuck with for the next ten or so years, lol.
Oh, a bit off topic here, but guess what I just found out! A Nintendo DS is more powerful than my old computer. Not in memory, but with processing power, graphics capability, etc.

At times I have seen some integrated video cards take 512 megs shared memory onboard and that depends on the motherboard itself as well. And how they set everything up. And how much memory there is on the motherboard itself. I had one that took 64 megs at one time which was considered a lot for a motherboard to use for a shared videocard. And it was not the typical nvidia card either it was a npopular video card being used that did not do the type f gaming that Nvidia and ATI is well known for.
If I had to with a gaming machine I usually try and keep the memory seperate from the main memory being used. Since you have more memory for the game being played on the motherboard and the video card can use it's own memory for rendering the images on the game itself. A lesson usually learned very well.

Thanks for the input. I'll be building a new computer from scratch so I'll keep that in mind. If I do go SLI in the future then I'll make sure I got a PS with good wattage for it too.

There was a discussion topic on some site I was reading a week ago. Some are predicting that there might be a revolution for intergrated GPUs with really high performance and a major price drop. No one really stated what this was based on though so it's nothing to take to heart, but it was a good read.
I'm going to start a topic about Windows 7 and see what everyones thoughts are about it....

Actually, I believe you are thinking of Windows Mojave, which is what they tell people Windows Vista is called when they drag them into a room to "try a new operating system".

nVidia's gone a little crazy, with all the models of cards they have now. It's a bit of a nightmare, figuring out which card you want.
They need to take a hint from ATI, and simplify their lineup. ATI only really has 3 choices right now: 4850, 4870, and 4870x2. I know there are other models, but they're all lower performing so most people won't be interested in them any more.
Meanwhile, nVidia has the 8800GT, 9800GTX, 9800GTX+, GTX260, GTX260 Core 216, and GTX280. And nVidia has even more lower-end models than ATI does.
They also still need to lower their prices a bit. I'm not paying more than $300 for a video card again. Ever. I spent $600 on an ATI X800 a few years back, and it was a ridiculous price to pay. Thankfully, ATI has helped bring back competition that's lowered video card prices somewhat.

I agree with the price issue. I think the Geforce 3 was only $300+ when it came out.
I like ATI and they do make really good cards, but I'm sorry to say that I'm pretty much a Nvidia fanboy.... where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online |
