TRON-Sector has some amazingly talented artists who regularly treat us to cool home made TRON imagery - based on the original film, and of their own personal design. I love coming here to see what people have come up with.
I'm not very good in 3D modeling software, but I don't see why that should leave me out of the picture. After all - I have the mighty PC Paint to work with!

The link is the animation of me drawing the light cycle.
I don't want anyone to feel left out though. With time and practice, you too can learn how to master Paint as I have. My LC is kind of a sloppy, quickly painted version, but I ended up liking it enough to post it. There's a coolness to the low-tech approach to high-tech imagery, or so I felt.
I think Boingo_Buzzard is the first (that I recall) to post his own light cycle made in Paint, but I've been wanting to do my own, and so there you go.
Anyone else got some low-tech TRON imagery to share?

Thank you, Boingo_Buzzard! I still remember your Paint light cycle from a couple years back.

Thanks, xistence! I wish I could play in the 3D arena like you've been doing, but I guess Paint will have to do for now.
It is interesting how cool simple Paint images can be. We were once limited to Paint (or Mac Paint, for those who remember when that was cutting edge in the mid 80's). Now with all the amazing graphic tools out there from PhotoShop to the top 3D rendering applications - it's kind of fun to play in Paint again.
I had to paint our bathroom this weekend. I SERIOUSLY wish I had the paint bucket tool from Paint while I was doing it. Sooooo much faster - and 100% even in color consistency. Why can't real-world painting be more like Paint?

Amazingly enough, I'd never heard of PC Paint before. I had to go look it up. PC Paintbrush, sure. But not PC Paint.
I think it's pretty sweet how you used an old-school paint program to create the Light Cycle. It turned out really well, too.

Oh yeah! I think it morphed in to just "Paint" so long ago (at least for me) I completely forgot it is officially called "Paintbrush". Totally remember now. And I'm sitting here laughing at my self about it.

Thanks. I've been playing with some basic speed drawing ideas in Paint... er, Paintbrush - mostly just random images and simple text messages. Then I wanted to play with some TRON imagery and I found myself doing the light cycle. The whole old meets the new... or maybe the old meets the old-new thing is an interesting and cool concept to me. I tried doing the MCP but that didn't go as well. I may try again.

TronFAQ Wrote:Actually, you were (and are) completely correct. There was both a PC Paint and a PC Paintbrush. They were competing products. PC Paintbrush was a response to PC Paint, from another company.

So while I'd heard of Paintbrush, I'd never heard of Paint before. Guess that's because I never bought a mouse that came with any kind of software bundled with it. |
I was just looking at Paint on my computer. It is called just "Paint" now. But when you mentioned "Paintbrush", I completely remembered that too. It's all a big bitmap blur in my head now anyway.
I remember playing with Paint long before I ever had access to Corel PhotoPaint or Adobe PhotoShop. It was fun to doodle and sketch things in it. My early photo manipulations were even done in Paint. Go back to the mid 80's and I was using Apple's "Mouse Paint" for my Apple //c. It was a watered down version of MacPaint, but still major cool to me. I got a LOT of use out of that back in the day. I even did a self-portrait in Mouse Paint - it turned out fairly well considering the color limitations of Apple 2 computers. I'll have to fire that thing up and grab a capture of it one of these days. Funny thing - a friend of mine back in the early 90's said that the image I made ended up looking more like an evil Jesus or something like that. Oh well, I tried.
