There was much excitement the demo footage of TR2N shown at Comic-Con generated. All TRON fans, the hard core geeks like us, and general (moderate) TRON fans, are speculating as to what we might be treated to in the long awaited sequel.
Will Flynn be a bad guy this time around?
Was that CLU? Was that a backup of CLU? Did Flynn write a new CLU?
Are they really going to do all the in-computer scenes 100% CGI this time around - even the programs? Will that suck or look good that way?
How come the light cycles don't turn at 90 degree angles?
How many original cast members will return for the sequel?
Is the MCP back?
Will Wendy Carlos be composing the music for the film? Why didn't she do the music for the demo footage?
How many licks does it take to get to a digitized Tootsie Pop?
I think it's safe to say that the TR2N News thread is the fastest growing and most popular thread in TRON-Sector history.
I find myself only quickly skimming through it though. I can't bring myself to read all the speculation about the TRON sequel.
Why?
In a nutshell - I hate spoilers.
I don't want to know what's going on in the next film. I don't want to know what to expect. I don't want to know who the bad guy is. I want to know as little about this film as possible.
I want to be able to enjoy TR2N the way I'd enjoy any film I'm interested in. I want to DISCOVER it as I watch it. The first time through is all about discovery to me. I want to experience things as they unfold - NOT watch expected situations play out.
I know many people (most?), especially fan-boys (or fan-girls) of whatever film series often enjoy wondering, speculating, and following news rumors about their anticipated upcoming films, but not me. I'm a fan-boy who just wants to enjoy the (hopefully) work of art that is presented.
Don't get me wrong - I'm not against anyone who wants to know things up front about TR2N. That's not what I'm saying at all. That kind of conversation is a BIG part of fan sites like this. It's a great focal point for fans to work up some interesting chat about.
I'd just rather discover it when it when I finally get to see it though. The only real concern I have right now is the in-computer scenes. I'm doubtful that they can pull of human characters 100% CGI. I'm thinking it will look like a glorified video game cut scene... which just won't cut it for me on the big screen - not even in real 3D. If they go that route, they had better take the technology about 20 years beyond where is now (or should I say, where it's been STUCK for a while).
I've got some other concerns as well - mostly stylistic things. But in terms of plot, who's who, and story elements - I really want to discover that when I get to see it on the big screen in beautiful 3D.
I just hope it doesn't suck. Can it suck? Even with Jeff Bridges aboard? Yes. Jeff Bridges can rock, and the film, as a whole, can still suck. I honestly don't think it will, but you never know. Anything is possible. My guess is the more the suits (Disney execs) keep out of it, the better chances it has to ROCK.
Sorry for the long post. But any other TRON fans trying to find out as little as possible about the film? Are some of you some where in between?

Hey The ReelTodd:
While I don't mind finding out some things, I, too, don't want to know everything before the film comes out. I also agree with you on the suits factor - the less the corporate suits stay out of this, the more this sequel has a chance of breathing and being a GOOD sequel (but if the writers writing the script are the guys who currently write for "LOST", I don't know if it will be good. We'll see). So many movies have been ruined from interference (as I call it) from the suits. I hope they just let the director, producer and all other film-making personnel, do their thing. TONS of people have been waiting 20+ years for a sequel, and there are some new fans being created. One of my co-workers, a new guy, who has a background in IT, was born in '83. I let him borrow my 20th Anniversary TRON DVD and he is now hooked.
As far as the film being 100% CGI, they shouldn't have to go that route. In my humble opinion, It may end up being around 85-90% CGI, because the only thing they'd need CGI for are: virtual backgrounds, the lightcycles with their jetwalls, the game grid, the programs' circuits, Recognizers (if they appear in this film), tanks, and other vehicles, the trails that appear when the discs are thrown(if they do it like TR1N), as well as digitization sequences and other special effects.

Oh GREAT!
Now it's ruined!
Wait...
Just tell me that Burt's mustache survives. If his mustache is ok, then there's a chance he can be cloned and the clone might be glued to Burt's original mustache and come back in TR3N - The Search for Spackle.

Uh oh. Here's my assessment of LOST:
Season 1: Wow - what a cool and interesting new show! I can't wait for each new episode. I wonder where this will go?
Season 2: Oh look - it went to Boringville! How shocking - Michael shot TWO characters unexpectedly. What a cheap stunt. WTF?!
Season 3: Way to totally ruin what started out as a great show. How many characters do I completely hate now? And the whole island thing is a big flash-back? LOST needs to be renamed to LAME.
Season 4: Yay! Since I stopped watching after the LAMEst LOST ever (the final episode of season 3) I don't have to witness how much more they f*ck up the show!
Sorry - I only hope this thread doesn't get lost and turn in to a discussion about that awful TV show gone wrong. No harm in starting a LOST thread (or finding the existing one) for those who'd like to go there.
The point I was trying to make is that I hope the people involved in TR2N who worked on LOST were people from Season 1 who jumped ship before LOST turned in to LAME.
I'm hoping for the best in terms of story. Where Star Wars got more and more kiddie-oriented with every release (most notably the latest toon-town SW film), I'm hoping TR2N grows up with all of us fans and goes for much deeper, darker adult content (not porno-adult, just mature-adult -you know what I mean).
Regardless, I hope to know as little about it as possible before it comes out. That way, good or bad, I'll at least get to experience it fresh as I see it.

I read some article about that Clone Wars movie (I like Star Wars, too, but I just looked at this once and was all "wtf...").
WARNING! TR2N SPOILERZ! LEAKED SCRIPT!
Everyone in the world switches to Macs and live happily ever after. Bill Gates digitizes himself to save the company he used to work for. Then some program sees him, gets really pissed off (due to Vista-anger-syndrome), and does the right thing and derezzes him.
Then everyone lives happily-er ever after.

The Reel Todd, my sentiments exactly. "Lost" needs to get FOUND - real quick! God, I hope and pray that the screenwriters for TR2N are from Season 1 of Lost when it was interesting and fresh!

The RealTodd:
I'm with you! It's going to be hard to avoid spoilers for sooo long but it's worth trying. I was able to do pretty well with The Dark Knight. It was also a long time between Batman Begins and TDK. Let's hope that people won't post all the leaked tidbits and speculations in the TR2N News thread so we can check in on what's going on without learning any secrets.

Re: the writers
If John Lasseter/PIXAR are also involved there's hope. They've come up with a few good stories and they know a little about the digital world and computers!
*fingers crossed*

Greetings, isMetaClass and welcome to TRON-Sector!
Sorry I missed your absolute first post in the I/O forums, but at least I'm giving your the official standard, substandard greeting before you got in to the double-digits.
We're all hoping for the best in terms of the TR2N story. No one wants to see TRON get LOST.
2.85 licks to the center of a digitized Tootsie Pop, huh? My talking pull-string MCP cone says there's a 68.71% chance your right.
