Help?

on Saturday, August, 09, 2008 8:50 PM

K, so I now have Half-Life 1: Anthology, which contains Half-Life, Opposing Force, Blue Shift and Team Fortress Classic; I also have the Orange Box, which contains Half-Life 2, Episode One, Episode 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2. No I looked in a folder called "Games" that was there when I got my computer (I created and use a different folder for my games shortcuts), and saw that I haev two Episode One's (just noticed that) and Half-Life: Source. I have no idea how HL: S got on my computer, I don't remember downloading it and it's not part of the games (is it?) When I click on it, it opened Half Life 2. Everything but HL:S appears on Steam. Help?

Great idea - Poor implementation = Vista Games folder

Microsoft did a crappy job on Vista's Games folder. You're better off ignoring that folder, and just pay attention to what's in your Steam list of games.

What I'm curious about is why it's there in the first place, when I never downloaded it and is as far as I know not a part of any of the games I have.
Can I just delete the contents of te folder? :P

It's a new feature that was added to Vista. It's built-in. The idea was to have one place that lists all your installed games. It's supposed to automatically add an icon in that folder, every time you install a game.

The only problem is, it doesn't work very well. Sometimes games don't show up, or games do show up that you don't even have installed. It was also supposed to provide some other nifty features, but the game publishers aren't taking advantage of them.

The only way to get rid of it is to change your Start menu properties. You right click on the Task Bar, choose Properties, click the Start Menu tab, then click the Customize button. Scroll down the list, and look for the Game entry. Click the radio button that says "Don't display this item" and click OK.

Wait till the day comes that you are stuck in safe mode. Apparently, if you have some form of Vundo on your computer then Vista may boot in safe mode and wont tell you why..

Had a client that had this problem a few days ago and it took me a long time to figure out why.

I wished someone would make a win9x/XP emulator for Vista. Microsoft ain't gonna do it, so someone else should.

I'm seriously thinking about switching to XP (I know someone with a CD) and just getting the Transformation pack, because theonly good thing about Vista is Aero. And the quick startup times.

At first I hated Vista, but now I've gotten used to it.

I still think it could be improved. But after applying Service Pack 1, it made a huge difference. Vista went from annoying to usable. It's also been rock solid since then. Very few program crashes, and no blue screens. I think the 64-bit version is more stable than 32-bit, though.

Only prob I've got is the fact that Windows explorer is hiding folders from me, and the occasional Steam crash on Portal/Windows startup. But those are pretty minor issues.

You might be able to go the start/control panel/system and there it should tell you the version and what system packs you got.
