Nintendo Channel Instant DS Demo Reviews

on Tuesday, June, 03, 2008 1:33 AM
Heyas.

I'm going to introduce something new. I'm going to download a DS demo from my Nintendo Wii, and review it as I play it! Genius!

I have a double feature for you all now! First up:

Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End
---------
Okay, downloading it now. Got a nice skull 'n crossbones dude from the ride. Sweet. I never saw any of these movies, btw.

Oooooh! One of the nicer demos! This one actually tells you all of the controls before you start. That's nice, but there's quite a few to remember here...

Okay, first off, this music is already on my nerves. Ouch. Also the jump button is in a rather awkward position, so it's a tad bit uncomfortable. The music track also seems to be really short. And it LOOPS. Oh God, no...

Wow, it's not a 2.5-D side scroller like I thought. It's pretty linear (left to right), but you can also move forwards and backwards. Animation is also pretty good, but combat could use a bit of work. Oh boy! Seems like I have a poisoned dagger! Is it really more affective than my sword, though?

Special weapons consume "Savvy". I'm sure pirates said savvy in the 18th century... hehe.

Okay, I'm stuck at a wall and the game isn't helping me at all, hang on.... Oooooooooohhhhhhhhh, there's the grapple item. It was in a pretty hard to see spot. Maybe it's this annoying music...

Hey, this dude's pretty athletic. He just used a piece of bamboo to pole vault across a gap.

Yay! I got an apple from some dude I killed! That's gotta be a crucial item!

Wow, the AI's being really stupid now. I just walked past an enemy and he didn't notice me till, like 10 seconds after I passed him. WTF?

Okaaayy, apparently flash bombs are savvy and your dude can't swim, yet he can pole vault, grapple, and jump really high...

Okay, so British dudes were swinging hammers at me, then I found some spikey fuzz ball and the demo ended. WTF?

I also found it hard to see where grapple posts were at times, so that could stump people..

---------

High School Musical: Makin' the Cut

Okay, I'm really bored, so here goes:

Alright, demo's ready, let's give it a DL.

WTF?!? There's an inversed communist star for the game's icon! And all games I've played that have commies are awesome! Lets-a go!

Looks like crap already.

WOOOAH! CREEPY CHICK WITH HUGE EARRINGS! SHIELD YOUR EYES! Let's see... I have to audition for the musical. Simple enough...

Okay, it's an Elite Beat Agents rip off.

Oh, and it seems like to succesfully try out for the dance, I also have to play basketball. WTF?

Wow, the music and notes are barely syncronized, and the song itself is just pure, unadultrated CRAP! Oh, and on the top screen, there's a chick singin' into a mic in the lunchroom or something...

Okay, a disko ball popped out of nowhere in the lunchroom. WTFOMGBBQ?

Well, demo's over. Funny how they say it's based on the original movie with an all new story. OXYMORON!

Sorry about this double post, but I have decided to do this at least once a week. Here goes:

Not too much new this week. Disney and some other companies refreshed the distribution lengths for their games, so there's only one new game and that is Arkanoid DS. I'll review that demo and Worms 2.

-----

Arkanoid DS:
-----
Okay, here goes. Downloading the demo now. The icon's pretty nice.

Wait, SQUARE ENIX?!?!? WTF? THIS IS ARKANOID! NOT FINAL FANTASY!

Oh wait there's the Taito logo.. Freaked out for a sec there.

Seems like there's a few options I can tweak here. I'll go with stylus control, barrier: 3, and Normal difficulty. There's a weird shilloette of a creature in the upper left hand corner of the top screen.

Okay, I have to save the heroes and recover the seven lights to power sattelites from an upside down pyramid in space. wtf?

Okay, first round recap:

Two blocks of blocks that had to be destroyed, just like the original arcade game. I really like the music, and the gameplay is great. Really nice design. Also, when you miss the ball with your paddle, it bounces off a barrier and reduces one from a little number on the touch screen. Basically, you lose a life if you miss the ball, and once you have 0 on that meter, the barrier dissapears and if you miss the ball, you lose it and it's game over.

Second round:

Hehe, it's a space invader made out of blocks. This round was pretty intense as time went on, and I found out that when you have multiball, one multiball can actually decrease your barrier strength. I lost my barrier at one point in the game, but thankfully the next level restores it.

Third round:

I found some new powerups here, including one that makes the ball go through and destroy all destroyable bricks it touches, and one that increases the strength of the barrier by one! This is really fun.

Fourth round:

Funner and funner it gets, although I'm starting to get some powerups that apparently have no use. Some explanation would be nice. Sweet! I got a 1000 point bonus for not missing the ball at all!

Well I got game over and.... WHAT THE?!?!? THERE'S A BUNCH OF WANNABE BOMBERMANS HOLDING HANDS AND SMILING AROUND SOME PLANET! WTF?!?!?

That game's not out yet, and I really hope Square Enix doesn't add an epic storyline to it. I don't really like that kind of stuff to be honest.

Worms: Open Warfare 2

-----

I've heard of the Worms series of games, but I am one of the few sick humans that have never played a "Worms" game. Up until now, that is! (I played this earlier, so I have a general understanding of what to do)

Lol, I'm looking at weapons and one of them is the Holy Hand grenade! Unfortunately, I don't have any of them. The beast shall eat me now.

Fun fun. I killed an enemy worm on my turn by knocking him into the water!

My turn again. Dang, I'm way too far away from all the other enemies. Let's use an airstrike! Oh wait, none of those. I wasted my turn, darnit.

Ahhh! I lost a dude!

Yay! I killed another enemy! But he killed one of my dudes.

Well darnit I lost. It was pretty fun, though. I think it should've had some more explanation, though. I've never played Worms, so I'm not too sure what I was doing. This demo was different than last week's. I wonder if Disney's rereleases are any different. I'll investigate...

-----

Well, that sums it up for today. Here's the rest of the games currently available:

High School Musical: Makin the Cut! (Expires 6/15, it's slightly different)
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emporor (Expires 6/15)order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pill
