Blade Runner

Hey I just ran out on my lunch break and picked up a very belated birthday present: the Blade Runner five-disc DVD Ultimate Collector's Edition in the "Deckard" briefcase!

For my birthday back in December, dear friends of ours gave me one of those "super gift certificates" that can be redeemed at a bunch of places, but I couldn't decide where to go until the other day when I saw this DVD set in the window of a Suncoast Video at a mall near my workplace. So I redeemed the "super gift certificate" for one that was good at Suncoast, received that one in the mail yesterday, and bingo! Got my briefcase!

I'll post pics maybe tonight once I get home, but for those of you who are interested, here is the set on Amazon.

Man, I really need to pick up Blade Runner at some point. Before the Ultimate edition goes out of print. But I was debating whether to get the DVD version or get HD-DVD/Blu-Ray instead.

The fact that the "format war" is over has just made this decision a *little* easier, but I'm not anxious to go buy another player again. The Blu-Ray version probably isn't *that* much better . . . but then again, I'd like to own the version with the best picture quality even if I can't watch it right away.

Hmm . . . decisions, decisions.

I was watching The Final Cut version last night and it's awesome. The picture is beautiful and really sharp, even if it's "only" the DVD version. The transfer of my old Director's Cut DVD is utterly pathetic and unwatchable compared to this new transfer.

I never get tired of watching Blade Runner. There are several movies I never get tired of watching; off the top of my head there's TRON, Blade Runner, The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Forbidden Planet, The Blues Brothers, The Princess Bride, Aliens, Dawn of the Dead (the original) and a few more, but that's a good list.

Anyway, if you can get your hands on the Ultimate Edition then do so; you'll kick yourself later if you miss out on it.
