All language unofficial patch

Did anybody think of doing that ?
French dialogs are pretty cool and I'd like to keep them if possible.

Greetings, Jazz Ad and welcome to TRON-Sector!

I'm not sure I've heard this one brought up before. To be honest, I've never really thought about it myself either. It makes sense though. They dub films over in various languages for release in various countries, why not games too? I guess the obvious answer is the expense involved in doing so, but I'm guessing that at least some games are released in multiple languages. Actually, many English-speaking games are just translated Japanese games, aren't they? Some are translated better than others, from what I hear.

Do you speak French? Probably a dumb question if you want a French version.

I'm not sure if the TRON 2.0 modding community has been able to crack the game open wide enough for doing other languages. Disney never released the source code and I know the modding community has had a hard time doing much with the game in terms of any major modifications.

A couple of threads you may want to hit are:

What's with your name?

And...

Don't forget to PING in every time you have yourself Another dose of TRON

I think you'll enjoy your time here at The Sector

The upcoming Killer App mod actually addresses this issue.

If you patch the game using the Unofficial patch, and then download and install the Killer App mod: it will ask you which language you want the game text to be in. So that after it's installed, you will have whichever language you prefer, even with the Unofficial patch.

Even if you disable or uninstall the mod - if that's what you want, but of course we at LDSO hope you won't - the different language text will remain.

Well, there's no need to change it back. The mod doesn't alter the original text in the game, except to fix some mistakes. If you uninstall the mod, you won't notice any difference.

But the mod backs up the files it changes, anyway. So if you're really concerned, you can always get back the original files.

Wait, when you say it backs up all the files it modifies, are you saying that the 2.4 GB of files that TRON 2.0 originally installed will be copied, thus causing TRON 2.0 to take up approx. 4.8GB of hard drive space all together?!?!?

That would make my hard drive cry.
Really though, I think my hard drive only has like 6GB left, and if I'm correct (please say I'm not) I'll have about 2GB left? Oh, man.

I think what Death program was asking if the language can be changed after installing the mod. Seemed like you misunderstood his question.

Also, in case KillerApp.mod doesn't work on my PC, will anyone still be hosting servers without the mod?
*Thinks wishfully*

Here's hoping it'll work on my piece-o-junk!

It would make mine cry, too.

No, it just backs up a few small files. We're talking maybe 200 MB total for everything, at the most. It doesn't need to replace or modify a lot of files.

I think what Death program was asking if the language can be changed after installing the mod. Seemed like you misunderstood his question.
His question wasn't worded that clearly, so I took my best guess as to what he meant.

If he meant whether the language could be changed later, then no. At present, it hasn't been designed that way. You choose whichever language you want during the install process. The speech files aren't affected. Only the text. If you pick the wrong language for some reason, you could always uninstall and reinstall.

It's mainly meant as a way to give people a chance to use the Unofficial patch, in languages other than English.

There's no doubt in my mind that there will still be servers running without the mod. In fact, getting server owners to use the mod will be the biggest challenge. Not the other way around.

Mods have always done poorly with Tron 2.0, because the Lithtech engine doesn't handle them very well. Monolith didn't really design the engine with modding or Multiplayer in mind, and it shows. Everything is more difficult than it needs to be.

my opinion, an official patch modified for languages.. if any, and I'll be hosting both types, un-modded and mod servers.

Awesome.

Oh, since the next Friday Night Fights will occur after the mod is released, should I host it on a server running the mod or not running the mod? (if I have a choice )
