The Last Starfughter - The Arcade game

on Monday, November, 05, 2007 7:01 PM
The arcade game from the film The Last Starfighter could very possibly be one of the most talked about non-existent arcade games ever, right up there with Space Paranoids.

I recently found this...a group of fans took it upon themselves to actually make that machine a reality.

http://www.roguesynapse.com/games/last_starfighter.php
On that page you can download their fan-made version of the game. The computer I have it running on tight now has no sound, but from what I can remember of the game from the film it's pretty accurate graphics-wise.

Yeah, those guys at Rogue Synapse have done some very cool stuff. I'd read something about Space Paranoids and Last Starfighter before here on Tron-Sector, but that was a long time ago.

I see they've updated the Last Starfighter page to show that they've built a replica of the cabinet used in the film. That's pretty awesome, I must say!

I'm also looking forward to the day when they release a Bishop of Battle game. I still remember watching that on TV when I was a kid.

Wow, I've always considered The Last Starfighter to be one of my favorite films of all time, and I've wanted to play that game from the moment it appeared on-screen.

Great find Nikster, thanks!

Hey I downloaded and installed the game and it plays extremely well. The graphics and sound are dead-on from what I can see, and the gameplay is actually pretty tough, but good; I really like it.

Yeah...it's very authentic from what I can remember from the film (is that movie out on DVD??). Early 80's polygons RAWK! *hehe* Glad ya like it, MutoidMan

I gotta get a gamepad tho...I cannot quite get the hang of using the keyboard to fly the ship and shoot stuff at the same time. I kinda suck

Anyone try the Space Paranoids game they have?

I find that using the keyboard to manuver the ship and using the mouse to aim the reticle works very well.where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

Wow that's an awesome site (just went)
Anow, I know where my Space Paranoids pic came from! It's the same picture as the one showing the side cabinet art. So... mystery solved. And that TRON deluxe looks awesome.

I wonder what the bare minimum to play that game on a system. Looks good to me over here.

2 Legit 2 quit

End of line

Compucore

VROOOOOOOOOMMMM!!!

To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.

The bare minimum is probably a Pentium 33MHz with 8MB RAM. I'm just kidding, but it can't be much, Compucore; it's pretty basic. Download and try it...

I guess I need to read the website for instructions. I can't get past the "Insert Coin" screen, despite hitting every key on the keyboard and every mouse button. I hate it when emulated games and the such aren't clear on these things.

I'm getting out of here right now, and you guys are invited. -----^

Same here. I was pressing every key and couldn't get passed the title screen. The only thing that worked is the Esc button.:]
Edit:

I started playing the game. I took a look at the read me files and the controls are...

5 ----- To insert coin

Space-------- fire

aswd and jkli ------- for the control of the targeting and aiming

Noooooo... I downloaded the TRON Multicab thing and it only gave me the interface... Is that as far as they've gotten, or did I miss a download?
BTW on the interface, everything loaded fine, but the icons that lead to the emulations are not in their proper positions, and I can't move them. How do I rectify this?

You can also aim with the mouse.

I still suck at the game, but after I started using the mouse I actually started hitting the target sometimes

To the best of my knowledge, Tron Sector has NOTHING to do with that project. Your best bet for help would be to ask the people at Rogue Synapse, their email should be listed somewhere on their page.
