I am new to the site as I have recently started looking for all items tron related to collect and display for my future gameroom. I saw an unbeleivably cool resin statue of tron on this site. Can anyone please help me with a little info about this statue--manufacturer , when it was produced or even where I can find one of these for sale? I think that one belongs to DaveTron. He had a statue (custom made) at his place.
I agree.. It was really awesome.. |

Or the 6 foot tall Mercury statue I own? Not sure if I have a pic of her online right now. Check over at my own TRON site by clicking the link below. DaveTRON

If you're talking about the Tron resin statue that's a foot or two tall, it's pretty cool, but I'm not very happy with Disney regarding it.
[rant]The glowing blue lights went out in mine within 2 months of owning it. I was busy at the time, figured it had a 1-year warranty so didn't stress about contacting them to ask them what the deal was. Then when trying to call them 3 or 4 months after purchasing it, they're all: "It only has a 2 month warranty, blah blah blah." I only had the thing powered on a total of like 4 to 8 hours ... max!!... yet half of the light bulbs go dead in it??! Yeah, whatever. Give me a break ~
Either the circuitry is messed up, or the bulbs truly went dead. Either way, I think I spent like $170 on it and got screwed. I should make a Youtube video where I smash the thing. Okay, I won't go that far... it's still a cool statue... but still. Rediculous.
And there doesn't seem to be any way to replace the bulbs. How ingenious. Did they expect the bulbs to last forever? (I guess I could be missing hidden screws or something somewhere, but I really don't think there's any easy way to open this thing up to fix it.)
[/rant]Edited so as to not be misinterpreted.

Traahn,
Right there with ya. My lights still work, but I am miffed I can't have it on all the time. I am afraid they will go out.
Mine arrived broken off at the ankles so I actually saw the bulbs in the legs and there is NO WAY to replace unless you want to break the statue.
I love it as is, but having it lit would be better.
Incidentally, I had mine repaired by a local hobby shop that does a lot of model kits and props for display. The guy who fixed it was a genius and even matched the paint details. It looks perfect, you can barely tell it was ever broken. There is just one missing chip on a shin guard to tip it off. Any if you don't know, it won't be obvious.

I have seen at many hobby shops on how well they do with the models that are on display. I had a friend who was like that as well. Even with left over parts from different models he was able to make something out of it. I might not be a master of models myself or even at Rocketry. But it's amazing on the workaship on models in general or even landscaping of model trains sets that are actually working.
It's ashame that they will not replace it for you. You would figure that they would help out in getting it fixed in some way or another.

Forgive me for being a little late with this...
Greetings, fluffyg and welcome to TRON-Sector!
Your game room plan sounds pretty cool so far. I'd listen to DaveTRON on the statue bit. He knows his way around finding and collecting all things TRON. Just check out his ever-growing TRON archive and see for yourself.
I do hope you post some photos for us once you get things in order!

not to um, rant... but a crystal looking statue, that isn't even crystal, that glows, in what blue I'm guessing? $170.00?? what a rip-off. Just an observation, but if you are just a little crafty, you can remake live circuitry fx with that glow tape, just add a few volts, and to remold it, find a smooth-on store near you, make some good rubber molds, use seperated ceramic moldsaround the rubber, (and release) then get crystal clear epoxy, use additives for UV active areas, and $hit, add armor w/ uv active armor molds made to simulate armor, or whatnot, just glue them w/ epoxy, and voila, american engineering... just add electricity (or not if done right).

Yeah, I plan to EL tape something some day, Jademz. Good thoughts.
The statue was $170 because it was bought in an online Disney auction and they only made like 120 of them or something, as I recall. The supply of them was dwindling, as they had done a number of auctions already... some of them going for over $200 in previous auctions, I think. As a true Tron fan, I couldn't pass it up. I owed it to myself to have this. I'm still glad I have one, but am just very bummed that you can't turn it on for fear of the bulbs going dead. Did they not use LEDs which would probably last much much longer than regular bulbs??
Actually, that question is for you DaveTron, since you've seen the bulbs. Were they LEDs? Or were they instead some sort of bulb you would find in the tail lights of your car? I suspect the latter. I've wondered this ever since I got it, even before the bulbs died on me.
Do you have pictures of the mess that arrived from Disney online?
How sad is it that we can't enjoy the awesomeness of this statue because we're afraid the bulbs will go dead. I NEVER turn it on any more.
I'm very tempted to slice the statue in half along its edges from top to bottom with a dremmel blade and install my own LEDs, then screw it back together by installing screws so I can replace the bulbs whenever I need to.

Heck, if someone sent one to me, I'd make a master, then send you both one w/ new leds. (just cuz I like the mini Tron) |
