Lisberger Studios Vibe on Sunday, July, 01, 2007 9:09 AM
I worked on Tron and Animalympics, before it.
The strongest memory I have of the studio is how loud it was.
Daily screaming and all of it coming from Steven Lisberger who used to verbally thrash his wife, practically on a daily basis, and then pop up in a group of us w his chest all puffed up like he had just won a round w Joe Frasier.
He, shamelessly, did the same thing w every single one of the employees.
ALL of them.
If OSHA had known what the decibel level was like at that place they’d have shut us down.
This might fly w animators who aren't seen on camera but w live action this attitude shows and it did w Tron.
Stiff, stale and lacking any soul... right to the end.
Too bad cuz it started out as a perfect gem of an idea.
PERFECT.
Till it was written and rewritten to death and Disney later got their hands on it.
The final outcome is a pale shadow of what we, originally, were shooting for.
It's no wonder to me that we see or hear very little of Steven Lisberger these days.
He lacked any real ability to direct live, feeling human beings.
I did learn one thing from him, though.
Never flog your employees to build a pyramid… even if the idea behind it was once pure.
It’s the blood, sweat and tears that really matter in the end… not the rubble of limestone.
EVERYTHING I have just said is true and ANYBODY who was there knows this.
So, if you all are really looking for some “facts” concerning Tron’s history then this post will be left intact as I have written it.
