I will happily submit that the PC is the more advanced platform.

It takes more money to create consoles, than they are sold for, and they do very little for the money. The creativity is simple, the price is simple, ect, but it's a PC, and they are denying millions of gamers, thier due. These games wouldn't exist if we didn't get a PC back in the 80's and buy or build games. The market is just corrupt, plain and simple.

Product always gravitates to the money. If the source of money shifts, so does the product.

That's either a virtue, or it isn't. The product for gamers, is simple. What's there to argue, since, the contention is really just who's gimmick sells the games? They aren't going to lose sales by selling cross platform, they're going to lose thier ass.

Here's a screenshot of the price I paid to build mine, and I use free software, I show part of my security in the screenshot. http://gallery.filefront.com/Jademz//591608/

Wow, first multi-page thread I've started. I think that the PC is great for things other than gaming, like web design, music, programming, art, and other things that you can't really do on a game console. However if you WANT to spend about $2000 on gaming PC, that's alright too. However any gamer with conscience from a money stand point will know that you will spend less money on two generations of Consoles than it will to upgrade your PC through one generation. And here's the thing. If you play your cards right, work through deals, and shell out a couple hundred more bucks, you can get a PC that's two or three generations ahead, computing wise. My old PC, back in 1999 when I got it, it was the most beastly rig out there. It could play anything, that is until now, Anything now doesn't run well on it, didn't run well on it. My PC crashed and the motherboard was fried after trying to play Guild Wars on it. The point I'm trying to make is if you want to save money, shoot for a console, if you really, seriously need to play some man's games, go for a PC. It's funny how diverse our technology is. I remember the Atari ST vs. Amiga, Nintendo vs. Genesis, Intellivion vs. Coleco, Apple vs. IBM.... (N'Vidia vs. ATI)... and the list goes on.

I sum it all up into one metaphor, "Flavor". When it comes down to it, it's all about our own personal tastes. There are no rights or wrongs in such a debate because we all defend what we regard as our flavor.

I've always had a computer flavor. Back in the 80's, my C64 did what no console could do. Donkey Kong is a good example. In fact, Nintendo left out the pie factory even in the NES version. I went from Commodore 64 to Amiga 500 in the latter 80's and also owned a NES, Turbo GFX 16, and a Genesis. Of those consoles, I favored the Genesis because it started out to be a more mature and serious system before Sonic came around. The Genesis was the last console I ever owned.

I use to mock both the Mac and PC before 1992 because my Amiga put them to shame, but the PC quickly won my heart over because game developers were doing some really amazing stuff... and Commodore Amiga went out of business in 1996... lol...

I suppose one of the first games that really caught my eye was StarWars' Tie Fighter. Doom came out and really got my attention. Space Hulk was another cool game. DOS wasn't really hard to learn. The biggest problem was that I kept screwing up my Autoexec.bat file and my boot sequence.

When games were strickly moving to Win95's Direct X, I complained back then. I figured it was a bad move considering that Windows takes up so many system resources, but in the end it all worked out great. I still love DOS though.

When I first learned about emulation, it was amazing. There was this group called Blood something. They wrote two very very good emulators. Nestical (NES emu) and Genecyst (Gen emu). I was so amazed how well the games were emulated and have been an emulation fan ever since.

ok.. I'm rambling...

Anyways... We are all gamers with many different flavors. We expect things because we invest in gaming and love the experience. We have good memories playing our games and we will do anything to get a taste of that nostalgia. We are also unwittingly creating memories where we want these moments back in the years to come. All of this due to our flavor.

It's like music. I love the hair-bands of the 80's. I think it's the best. I hate how rock music changed in the early 90's.... but that's my flavor... and my flavor differs from many (I'm listing to RUSH right now. Moving Pictures album.)

So.. just for giggles, I'm going to try and form a timeline of my gaming history.. Why? Because I can't sleep and I've been drinking.. lol...

1980 - Odyssey 1000
1981 - Atari VCS (2600)
1983 - Colecovision
1983 - Commodore 64
1985 - Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)
1987 - Amiga 500
1988 - Sega Genesis (or 1989.. can't remember)
199? - Turbo GFX 16
1991 - Amiga 2000
1992 - PC (from then up to now 2007)

If you note, between 1983 and 1984 the game market crashed and consoles weren't doing well. Between that time and 1985 when the NES was released, many hardcore gamers went to computers and I was one of them. We sported our 5.25 floppies and damn proud to have them (my god, I'm sounding like a grand pa). That was when my computer life started... well.. really it was 1982 when I saw Tron as a kid, but the real world of computers didn't grab me till 1983.

awe... the memories..

"Wizard needs sex... badly" - My Gauntlet spoof.. lol

[Edit] - I should have said "... till Nintendo saved the console market." in that last paragraph.

Ah, the days of trading games on 5.25 floppies; Lode Runner and Montezuma's Revenge for example.

Who here remembers that you could cut out another notch to make your floppy double-sided?

Yeah.. I found it to be odd as to why disk companies were trying to market single sided and double sided. All that needed to be done is to hole punch a half circle (or cut a notch out with sissors) on the other side of the disk... Worked great when you had to play a game that was two disks cause you could put both on one (depending on the game).

These were great days *sigh*. I still kept my C64 plus about 400 disc with games. Man, some of these games are still more innovative then some of the current hightech ones. It is not always the uber-graphic that makes a great game...

Even though I'm too young to appreciate the fact that old technology was awesome, my brother and I have a C64 and use it quite often. It works especially well with my small SDTV. Man, i really wish I could get some games for it instead of programming some very small text adventure games.order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill

There is a way. If you are ok with emulation, you can download the VICE emulator here:

http://www.viceteam.org/
... and games here:

http://www.c64.com/

I believe that these games are legal because no one (like the SPA or whatever they are called now), never went after sites that had C64 disk images for download... and many of those sites have been around since before 1997.

I'm not sure if you can copy the disk images to a real disk to be read by a C64 drive, but if you do a little looking around for the right software and you have a 5.25 floppy drive for your PC, then I think it may work. I've never tried it yet since my C64 broke somehow many years ago.

Yeah, the C64 was such a great computer. I have a lot of memories playing games on it back in the 80's. The emu works really well too.
