Are at Wired.com.

I think there is at least one sector member out there that will find this to be of interest.

Thanks for the link... I wasn't surprised that 'Another World' a.k.a. 'Out of This World' made the list. They tried to bring it to the Sega CD but it flew under the radar when that device didn't sell well.

There is one game I didn't notice that I think should have made the list, and it's a game called "MoonStone". It was the most violent and bloody 2D game ever made.

Some of the titles were later released for the PC... like Worms and Lemmings.

Here is a fun fact:

Lemmings was developed by DMA design. When asked what DMA stood for, the developers said, "Doesn't Mean Anything". They later became 'Rockstar Games' and made the GTA games. They are also responsible for Max Payne.

The Amiga computer really produced a lot of great 3rd party game developers. Many of which are still making games today.

Another fun fact:

Pinball Dreams was noted to be one of the best all time pinball sims. It was created by Digital Illusions who later became D.I.C.E. and recently developed Battlefield 2142.

Cool thread. I'll have to post a list of the games that I thought was most Influential to me... where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

(looks at list)

Yippee!

But seriously, interesting stuff. It makes me wish I actually had an Amiga, or at least got to know the system better when it was around. I played one once, but that's it...

There are some good titles on that list, but I don't like Syndicate being on it. Not sure why, but I never really cared for that game. Might've been the excessively long load times, coupled with slow gameplay. Seeing that screenshot of Another World makes me want to play it here. I think I will! Cannon Fodder was a really cool game, and one I've felt several times over the past 15 years that I wish they'd make a new version of. I bought Commandos 3 thinking it might be similar, but it wasn't... Commandos was too complex for its own good. Conversely, Cannon Fodder got down to the basics for some interesting fun.

PS: I actually would've rather seen just a "Top 10 Best Amiga games" rather than "influential" list, but alas.

Just played some Another World here...

Another World - a.k.a. Out Of This World here in the U.S.A. - is the only game on the list I was even aware of because I didn't have an Amiga or PC at the time. However, I had seen the very begining of a console version of the game, in which the professor goes to his lab and runs the ill-fated experiment. That was enough to make me want Another World, but like I said, I didn't have a PC, so I didn't buy it. And now it costs something like $50.00 and up to get the MS-DOS version on eBay.

Well, I just bought the enhanced Collector's Edition for a mere $8.99!

Check it out here: ElektroGames
Here is what was written about it on Wikipedia, where I learned about the Collector's Edition:

Versions
Screenshot from the original Amiga version. The game was originally released for the Amiga in 1991, running at a display resolution of 320x200 pixels. This version received less play-testing than other versions, making for a less-fluid game, but the Amiga's sound capabilities afford it a high sound quality comparing to contemporary ports.[3] This version was then ported to the Atari ST.

After receiving critique about the game's lifespan, Chahi added a whole new area using a number of new ideas. This ended up being the 1991 MS-DOS version, which was ported by Daniel Morais. The Apple Macintosh version features higher resolution than the MS-DOS version, but is otherwise identical.

Through Interplay, the game was released for the SNES, the Sega Mega Drive, and the Apple IIgs in 1992. The SNES and Apple IIgs ports were programmed by "Burger" Bill Heineman. Due to technical limitations, the SNES port runs at a lower resolution, while the SMD version has lower quality sounds and music. Interplay wanted the console versions to be more difficult to give players more value for their money, so new dangers were added. Interplay wanted to exchange Jean-François Freitas's music for a different soundtrack, but Chahi did not agree to the change; but after considerable debate Interplay was eventually allowed to use additional music, composed by Charles Deenen. Nintendo then requested that all scenes featuring blood, or anything blood-like (such as the alien "venus flytrap" saliva in cutscenes), as well as a scene with nudity be redrawn.

The 3DO version was developed by Interplay, and features very detailed backgrounds. Chahi believes this actually detracts from the game, making the polygonal characters look simple by comparison. The game's soundtrack was changed again, albeit without any legal troubles, presumably due to Chahi's focus on Heart of Darkness.

The 1994 Sega Mega-CD version of Heart of the Alien, the game's non-canon sequel, includes an enhanced version of Another World as a bonus. This version includes an improved CD audio soundtrack composed by Jean-François Freitas. The game also features slight graphical enhancements and new voices for Lester and the aliens. There is, however, a minor glitch in the game that makes certain parts of the underground caverns appear flooded, even when they are not.

In 1995, a Windows 3.x version was released. This version includes MIDI renditions of the original music.

The 2006 Plus Edition and Premium Edition of the Amiga Forever emulation pack both contain an exclusive version of Another World.

More recently Chahi acquired the rights to Another World's intellectual property from Delphine. Magic Productions offered to port the game to mobile phones, and with the help of Cyril Cogordan the game was ported. Chahi saw the game's playability could be improved, so he used his old Amiga to reprogram parts of the script. He made the graphics' shading more clear to counter the mobile phones' low resolution.

After this Chahi used this version to create a new Windows version targeted at Windows XP. Emmanuel Rivoire increased the resolution to 1280x800 pixels, and Chahi created more detailed bacorder abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

I actually downloaded my version from here: http://www.anotherworld.fr/anotherworld_uk/. I wonder if the proceeds from buying it from this site would go straight(er) to the original creator's pocketbook since its his home page.

Here's the WinXP download link for the demo from that site: http://www.anotherworld.fr/download/AnotherWorld_Demo.exe. If I remember correctly, this downloads a somewhat functional demo, but to play more you buy an inexpensive key which unlocks the full version. It cost €7 when I bought it last June. I even wrote to the creator to commend him on the interesting game and he responded.

Regarding gameplay, I'm actually stuck. I can't remember how to get by either of the two enemies seen in the bottom two screenshots I posted above. Frustrating, but an enjoyable frustration since a lot of games today don't leave much to the problem-solving imagination anymore.

PS: One other game that I think of when I think of Another World is Future Wars. Had great graphics for the time, too. I can't seem to find a way to buy it, so if anyone knows how, please let me know! It looks like that links to the exact same store to pay for and download the game that the site I posted links to, so I doubt it makes a difference. No point in maintaining more than one point of purchase for an $8.99 game.

As for how to kill those two enemies... here are a couple of hints:

Wow, the energy pistol that you carry in Another World is one of the most satisfying weapons I've ever used in a game. It should really be one of the top 10 or 20 game weapons of all time.

I'm really enjoying figuring out the puzzles; AW reminds me of the great times I had playing Grim Fandango and The Dig, but with a very 'Silent Interlude' vibe.

If you like adventure games and have never played AW, or if you have played a previous version of it, then I enthusiastically recommend that you buy the Collector's Edition. Yes, I'm digging it that much.

Thanks for the hints without spoiling anything. I will study those screenshots very closely. I vaguely remember something about that 1st screenshot, but really need to search my memory banks. Pretty interesting. And yes, that energy pistol is extremely satisfying weapon to use. The sounds, its build-up, etc. Everything is cool about it. AW is a cool game. I'm glad you're liking it and I hope more people try it...

Well, I got past those guys! Now I'm stuck at another part! I'm sure you can guess where (the place where there is a prisoner wanting to escape but gets the door shut in his face). I shall figure out what to do soon...

Having just finished AW, I can say it was definitely fun.

It would've been great if AW had been longer, but it's an older game so I can easily excuse the length. However . . . thinking about the game's length while writing this, it occurs to me that the puzzles and combat - and there are a lot of both - were probably regarded as being much more difficult back when the game was first released because at the time, most people had never experienced anything like AW; that being the case, the game would've taken much longer to complete. The game was shorter for me today probably because I'm an experienced gamer, and so have been trained to solve puzzles.

Still, AW is definitely a game worth having experienced, and I'm sure any PC that any of you possess or have access to will easily be able to play it.

Yeah... Another World / Out of this World... has to be one of the most 'intelligent' 2D platformers I've ever played. Controls reminds me a little of the first 'Prince of Persia'.

The artwork on this game is really amazing. Reminds me a little bit of 'Shadow of the Beast II' but with more shades of blue than you can shack a stick at.

The character has more death seans than any game I've ever played... Well... looks like I'm going to boot up my Amiga emu and start playing it again..

That reminds me, I got to get back to my game reviews.
