Prophetic Tron?

on Thursday, July, 27, 2006 2:01 PM

I just noticed something....

In this scene...

The woman in the lower right is clearly using a mouse. Were mice around in 1982? I know the macs had them when they came out in the later 80's, but what about the early 80's? Anyone know?

I'm just trying to remember. I think they did, but they weren't common. I'm just trying to think back to that movie-documentary that I saw last year.... ^^;;

The Alto Computer developed by Xerox and then dumped as the most foolish corporate decision in history was developed from 1972 - 1978 and it used a mouse & GUI

I don't know what it's called, but that device appears in some other places related to TRON outside the film.

I've got a closer shot of her hand and the device she's holding is for targeting a point on a drawing on paper to trasfer it to the computer. It was used in the early 3D work I think. I'd have to do a little research.

Maybe some enterprising soul here wants to look into it? I can provide what little data I have.order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pill

From what I could tell just by looking at just the picture alone. It seems to look like a kind of mouse or pen like for that stations. Reminds me of the tablet that I have that has a similare mouse with wired crsshairs on it. Could be anything.

VROOOOOOOOOMMMM!!!

To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.

Yep. I had a tablet for my C64... around mid 80's...

Mice were definitely around in 80's as far as I know. Macs came out in 1985... (or 1984?!)

Kia: Cool. I'm a infamous mythological perfect User.

It's not exactly a mouse she's holding.

DaveTRON and Compucore recognized it. It's part of a drawing tablet. The "puck" (as it was sometimes called) has a window on it with crosshairs. You line up points on a drawing in the crosshairs, and click a button. This allows you to generate a 3-D wireframe image.

It was used a lot back in those days, including the production of Tron. The guys at MAGI and Triple-I used it. So putting it in the film was kind of a nod to their own work.

You could use it as a mouse, but that would be a waste.
