Now this is how to get people excited about a game!
These days, Pole Position would probably be a game about strippers.

Didn't Pole Position have a short-lived cartoon way back when? I think I remember something about it...

Yep, there was acartoon series. The Pole Position series was cool. Love that intro and the cars. One series I wish was on dvd.
Man, looking at all the various Atari commercials on YouTube, Atari REALLY was ahead and knew how to sell a product. It's amazing how flexiable they where with targeting their games. The Pole Postition commercial that Dave posted shows how times have changed, cause they didn't just target kids, but a whole universial audience that was any age, for example the entire family in the car of the Pole Position commercial. And so many of their ads did this. That's something not many companies have achived. That speaks volumes about the industry at the time. It's just amazing how brilliant and fun alot of these ads are at selling nothing more than a little catridge with a simple game on it. Awsome!

Yeah...one of the networks had a block of programming dedicated to cartoons based on videogames, called the Saturday Supercade. It had cartoons based on Pole Position, Q-Bert, Donkey Kong, and Pitfall Harry as well as other games.

Awesome find!
I loved Pole Position (arcade version)!
I never owned Atari (2600) Pole Position, but played it at a friend's house when I was there. I had it for my Commodore 64 though. It was pretty damn cool for an 8-bit port!

I liked that, it was funny, and action packed.
it also made me respect and appreciate an era of gaming that i never had a chance to experience
oh and i thought i'd bring it to people's attention that the Strip club in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was called "Pole Position" and had a distinct racing theme. i think the vice city developers were thinking along the same lines as you DaveTRON.
