More Than Meets The Eye..

on Saturday, June, 17, 2006 6:46 PM
Ok... since I'm wating for the live action Transformer's movie to be released (Summer of 2007 I think), I decided to revisit my childhood by watching all the old shows and I'm over halfway through season one.

My thoughts on revisiting the past.

They sure don't make cartoons like they use to. Although anime is a cool style that I enjoy, I truely miss the old American style of TV cartoons like Transformers, G.I. Joe, Thundercats, old He-Man, etc...

Looking back at these old cartoons, there is so much that I have forgotton but now able to remember (memory refresh). I'm falling in love with the Transformers all over again.

Since my eyes are keener than they use to be, I've noticed a lot of glitches (well... maybe not the best use of the word) in the toons. For instances, sometimes when StarScream is speaking, Megatron's mouth also moves. Another bit about StarScream is that sometimes he appears as a blue robot when he is suppose to be red. I noticed one instance where Optimus Prime was blue (no, it wasn't a shadow effect). This happed a lot in the old 80's toons and I think it could have had to do with the technoligy of the time and the buget they were under. Nevertheless it's really interesting to see.

Although the cartoon seemed a lot more mature when I was a kid, looking back today I have to laugh at the dialog from time to time.... but I still love it. I feel like a kid again.

Ok... Now time to talk about my all time fav. Transformer's robot.

Sound Wave:

I still hold my fav. since I was a kid. He's got this cool vocoder voice, ejects other Decepticon's through his tape deck, and he seems to be the only Decepticon with any sense. To me, he is like the Boba Fett of Transformers. The really cool looking guy that can do cool stuff. I wished I was a really cool looking guy that can do cool stuff. Well... I can make toast and watch the show "24" at the same time.... uhh... ok... I suck.... lol...

The Transformers rule, period.

Soundwave was definitely the coolest of all the Transformers toys, and in the cartoon he had the most evil voice of all the Decepticons for sure.

But Optimus Prime will always be my absolute favorite. He was just one bad dude who happened to be a nice guy.

I always had this major respect for Optimus Prime. He isn't just a leader of the Autobots, but a father figure as well. It's hard not to love this Transformer. I was almost in tears when I saw the movie as a kid in which he died.... but then they brought him back in the later seasons of the TV show.

Rule #1: You can not have a Transformers movie or show without Optimus Prime... and it won't work right unless they use the proper voice. This is where I hope that the new movie doesn't screw this up. If there are two Transformers that must be in the new movie, it would have to be Optimus and Megatron.

Generation One is the best. I'm still yet to explore the new shows. I'm skipping the Primal Wars (or whatever they were called) because it just seems too much of a dumb idea. I don't believe in evolution and I sure as hell wont degrade the mighty Optimus Prime to a damn monkey... lol...

Ironically enough, Optimus Primal was originally going to be a bat before Hasbro turned him into a gorilla (not a 'monkey'). In fact, up until a few years ago, it was still fairly easy to find the two-pack Beast Wars (called "Beasties" in Canada) action figure set which featured Optimus Primal (bat) & Megatron (a crocodile) together.

Also, it's very well established in the canon of the Transformer franchise that Optimus Primal & Optimus Prime are two different individuals, just as Megatron from "Beast Wars" is entirely different then the Megatron from Transformers, Generation One. Therefore, you can rest easy knowing that Optimus Prime wasn't 'degraded' into an ape.

Just for the record, if memory serves me correctly, there was also a mandrill "Beast Wars" action figure (B'Boom) as well as a bonafide monkey (Optimus Minor). If you can find it in yourself to look past their primate appearance, both were regarded as excellent action figures.

It's unfortunate, as well as a bit mystifying, that you feel so unfavorably towards the "Beast Wars" phase of the Transformers (TF) franchise. Most TF enthusiasts now regard the BW episodes as some of the best written episodes (and story-arcs) ever & certainly some of the most mature. The series is certainly regarded more favorably then it's successor, "Beast Machines" (which, FYI, doesn't have all of that pesky evolution stuff in it).

Ironically enough, had you actually watched the series, you may have stumbled upon the eventual story-arc in the series that Earth's history was, at least partially, 'intelligently designed.'

Please, though, don't let the facts interfere with your blatant ignorance on the subject. I wouldn't want rationality to influence your decisions for you.

Dude, what's with the snubbing people for their beliefs?

I have seen some of the BW episodes, and you are right... they were well written...

You must understand that I'm really really old school here. To me, the best Transformers were the Gen. 1 bots. Things got a little out-of-hand after the movie and season three.... so much so that the series disappeared.

I can see that your heart is really attached to the Beast War series, but I still never liked the concept. It just seemed so out of place to me.

Sorry to have hurt your feelings...

Next time, be a little more mature when you post. I wasn't out to offend you. The proof is that I never got personal, and you did (just read your quote above).

It's ok, FF.... It wasn't a fight between beliefs, just a misunderstanding and a disagreement over a series. I just hope that it's settled because Steve said what he wanted to say, and I responded. I hope we can get back on topic.

Sorry for flaring up. It just seemed to me that he was snubbing you for not believing in evolution.

No, you never got personal with me but your statement about BW was ignorant & I called you out on it. Plain & simple.

When you're done being ignorant about BW, then this is settled.

You're right... I was being ignorant about BW... But that was no excuse to attack me...

What you should have said was that I was underestimating the BW series and then said what you said, but making such attacks doesn't make you look good at this sector. It is greatly frowned upon. You need to learn to respect others online as you would in person.

I use to be that way years ago... Those who counter-reacted me made me rather upset, but instead of letting my Irish temper get the best of me, I learned from it. Sometimes I find someone who is either wrong about something or just seem to be ignorant, but I don't attck them, I just simply correct them in a kind way...

This is free advice...

Instead, I merely replied with facts regarding Beast Wars that were not evident in his assessment of it. It is unfortunate that my response to his apparent ignorance perturbed you, though. My sincerest regrets.

You really need help... It's just a damn show... Why are you turning this into a battle??? Such behavior is not welcomed here...

I still can't get over how kids act these days...

I liked Optimus Prime when they first aired Transformers. And Omega Surpreme in the first generation.

VROOOOOOOOOMMMM!!!

To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.

Omega Surpreme really rocked... The idea was really cool. A Transformer that turned into a battle station.

I often wonder how many Transformers they will include in the up coming movie. I don't think they would have Omega in it, but it would be cool if they did.where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online
