...and for the heck of it I was looking up old videogame magazines from the early 80's in googl and wikipedia.
I found this...

I used to have this poster on my wall when I was a kid...I wish I still has the magazine.
Anyone else remember this? ________________________

I don't remember it, which means I probably never saw it. But is it just me, or is the basic cover design reminiscent of old video game packaging from the era?

Yeah...it looks like an Atari game box
From what I can remember, that was how a lot of gaming mags looked back in the day, lots of airbrush-type stuff going on. ________________________

I always thought that the Atari boxes had great artwork. In retrospect, that artwork kind of got your imagination going and helped you to overlook the blocky graphics.
Check out the light cycle on the next cover in the series. "We are, after all, not God." - Cmdr. J. J. Adams "C is for cookie. That's good enough for me." - Cookie Monster "If money is the root of all evil, I'd like to be a bad, bad man." - Huey Lewis & the News

Neat! I wonder if the big time collectors here have any of them, or if you've just given them something to hunt for |

But I don't have that second issue and, truth be told, didn't even know about it. For those of you who don't frequent the gallery, check out the killer magazine section whenever time permits. Personally I've tried to only buy magazines that have something Tron related on the cover, but at some point I may break down and start chasing after all of them ;^). Other than vintage Tron toys, magazines are definitely my favortie area of vintage Tron collecting.

Cool poster!
I never even knew of those Vidiot magazines, but the look of them brings back memories of the early days of computing and gaming.
** takes a moment to reminisce **
Ahhh - the memories!

Absolutely!
I clearly remember just starring at the artwork in the Atari booklets and reading the back-story of the game, and then diving in to the game with a whole lot of charged imagination!
A lot of times, I would pretend that the game screen itself was more like a scanner view of the action that was going on.

One thing is for sure . . . the artwork for magazines and video game packaging was a lot more interesting back then. A lot of it was still hand drawn or painted. Now most of it is done by computer, and it just doesn't capture the same feel.

I always felt cheated by the great box art when the game was just a block shooting a block at another block. I soooooo wanted the game to match the art on the box... Now it does. Ohhhh we've come a long way in a short time.
But the oldschool art is sweet though, lots of great retro popculture stuff there.

The Atari 2600 manuals were always cool because they were bascially mini stories in an of themselves, with original artwork. I remember always reading the manuals and really enjoying them. I never kept any of them, of course, (slaps self).
