Tron Returns for Special 70mm Engagement at the El Capitan Theatre

Hollywood's legendary movie palace, The El Capitan Theatre, launches a special 10-day salute to Walt Disney Pictures' 1982 landmark computer animated feature, Tron, starting on Thursday, May 6, with a fun-filled opening night. An archival 70 mm print of the film (featuring six-track Dolby SR® Stereo) will be shown throughout the 10-day engagement, and original costumes and memorabilia from the film will also be on display. The opening night panel discussion will be moderated by Academy Award®-nominated visual effects artist/filmmaker Harrison Ellenshaw, and will include director Steven Lisberger, visual effects supervisor Richard Taylor (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) and production designer/ futurist Syd Mead.
During the entire run of Tron at the El Capitan Theatre, multi-player disc battles & Light Cycles with Tron 2.0 will be available to play, courtesy Buena Vista Interactive. As part of the opening night activities, a live Tron 2.0 Tournament will be played on the big movie screen. Original costumes from the film, along with posters, props and other memorabilia will also be on display.

Tron broke new ground for the art of computer generated-imagery when it was first released in 1982. Although the technique had previously been used in Star Wars and West World, Tron was the first film to create a three-dimensional world using this medium. A futuristic adventure set in cyberspace, the film follows the exploits of a young computer genius who gets blasted into an electronic world, where computer programs are the alter egos of the programmers who created them. Sentenced to die on the videogame grid, he teams up with Tron (an electronic security program) to escape and destroy the Master Control Program and return to the "real" world. Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner, David Warner, Cindy Morgan, and Barnard Hughes star. The film was directed by Steven Lisberger and produced by Donald Kushner.

Sorry to be a party-pooper, but this happened a couple of years ago. It's not happening now.

But who knows, Tron may show at the theater again one day.
