Okay. I've figured it out! I've found the engine that Tron 2.0 is built off of! It was the Jupiter engine which can be found here: http://www.touchdownentertainment.com/home.htm
Maybe we can stop the wait on BVI if we know what engine is used?

No. I was just hoping that it would be a clue or something. Also, I was pretty excited about it! ^^;;;;

2) Even then, we wouldn't get the TRON 2.0 content because it's the property of Disney. So we'd have to re-create everything from scratch, anyway. Just like we do now.

1.) Definately not. We college people are poor people!
2.) I was sorta getting on that tangent of sorta building stuff from scratch.
I dunno.... I really thought I had something..... ^^;;;

We could do it that way. But some of use don't have $10K burning in my pockets. And not only that will it be portable to other OS's like ubuntu linux 5.10 (Breezy badger), Solaris 10, OSX, Open step, etc. ANd how much can we optimize the coding too. I mean it's not as being a huge resource hog as Oracle 9i or Oracle 10g. There is still a lot of tweaking that even the jumpiter engine and even the game itself of Tron 2.0 needs to go through to make it even more acceptable to other users who are not using the latest and greatest Computer and OS. I'm looking at it from a different stand point here since I am also using ubuntu linux here as my core OS on my secondary computer here so the software that I am always looking into has to be able to run not only on a windows computer. But it has to be able to run on a ubuntu system as an alternative to the windows environmant. And even with a slower CPU too boot of of. It if is going to happen it needs to be optimized and it needs to be able to be ported onto other OS's in order to get people using those for better success. But that is just my point of view here.

To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.

It was never a secret which engine Monolith used for TRON 2.0. In fact, it was big news due to the amazing visuals.
TRON 2.0 was built using the Triton engine, which was a heavily modified version of the Jupiter engine. I say "was" because it looks like Touchdown Entertainment has renamed Triton to Jupiter because that's the engine that's advertised on their website as having been used to make TRON 2.0.
Here is an excerpt from an article on GameSpot from 2003 regarding the Triton engine:
Triton is a visual-effects-heavy version of LithTech's next-generation Jupiter game engine, which will be used in Monolith's upcoming sequel to No One Lives Forever.
Triton will combine the advanced graphics rendering capabilities of Jupiter with additional special effects and other new features, such as a third-person camera perspective and a new vehicle physics system used to create the light cycle races in Tron 2.0. In addition, Triton will support the use of defensive weapons such as shields, as well as a drag-and-drop inventory system. |

Kamui, if we could build a duplicate of the Tron 2.0 engine, while spending barely any money, we'd be able to become the richest people in the world. There's a reason they sell it at 10,000$ a license. Unless one of us wins the lottery or finds a huge reserve of oil under his house, we're never going to get access to the source code. What exactly are you guys trying to do? If you want to add more functionality into the Tron 2.0 game, even forking over the 10 grand for a Lithtech license wouldn't get you the source code for the game. Not to be negative, since I admire everyone's quixotic desires to get the source code for this game, but it's most likely not going to happen.
But the up side to all of this is you guys seem to be passionate about wanting to make something. The other good news is there's pleanty of free engines to use if you want to work on a game. If there's a group of you with art/modeling and programing skills, why don't you try working together on a small project and seeing what you can create together. You couldshould even make it Tron themed! If you guys decide to do something like that, my best advice is keep it small and simple, no RPGs or epic stories, just like one or two mechanics and get them working.
I haven't looked into many of these but here you are:
irrlicht.sourceforge.net (I've played with this one a little)
www.ogre3d.org
www.crystalspace3d.org
www.panda3d.org (yeah, even Disney has one, weird, huh?)
www.genesis3d.com
Good luck! (BTW, doing things like this is a good way to get experience and prove to developers that they should hire you, that is, if you're thinking about doing this stuff for a career)

another one I'd like to add to that list is actually a kind of "easy way" to make a First Person shooter (which is what is).
FPS Maker (I think the site is www.fpsmaker.com) If you make a game with that and sell it, you don't owe them a dime. You can edit anything using it and you can import any object into the editor as long as it is a 3D object (Like a Disc :P)

Wow - I just watched the demo video of that. It looks really cool! I've often wondered what it might be like to make a modern game, but I'm not even close to being at a level of programming proficiency to even think about dabbling in it. It looks like this game has tons of pre-fabs to construct things with and a very simple editor to do it in. For $50.00 I might look in to this... well, that is if my old PC can handle such a thing. My computer can barely run TRON 2.0 with glow effect turned on. Not sure how well it would do with this thing.
I'd never be able to make anything worthy of showing off to people, but I bet I'd have a lot of fun just seeing what kind of environments I construct and then playing in them!
Of course, I'd want to make something TRON like with it after learning the ins and outs... but I'm not sure I'm smart enough to go making my own TRON pre-fabs or re-detailing existing pre-fabs let alone re-skinning the character models. Damn cool gaming package though IMO!
Oh... what would be cooler than cool is if it had online multiplayer capabilities!
EDIT: Oh - it does! Haaaa! How cool is that! Limited to 8 players at once, but still very cool!
EDIT2: Crap! My video card falls short of the minimum requirements. Bummer. ** sigh ** where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online
