That, and the addition of things that had nothing to do with Tron (grunge music, Halo helmets on the characters).

The pictures of the model in this thread, are a Grid Bug. They were in the movie briefly, during the Solar Sailer scenes. Yori says "If those Grid Bugs get us, we've had it" (like Fretnoize mentioned), and then we see them.

Ah . . . well, your guess is as good as ours. Other than that one line in the movie, they're not really explained. But since Yori seemed pretty worried about them, they must be a threat to programs. From the arcade game, we know TRON fought them and they threatened his life.

I guess they're kind of similar to a very simple virus, but not exactly the same. More like they're glitches created by the system, that can cause other programs serious harm. (i.e. Instead of being courrpted, but surviving . . . programs instead malfunction so badly, that they "die".)

Okay, sorry for steering the thread off-topic, Cueball. (Sort of. )

I'm not sure about that. I've heard talk... maybe from DaveTRON... that the Gridbugs played a much bigger part in an earlier version of the script. When I first heard that I asked for details but I don't think anyone answered. Any of you collectors out there have a copy of the script? I see movie scripts on eBay all the time so I wouldn't think this kind of info would be too hard to find. I know DaveTRON has seen drafts Steven has worked on for a possible TRON 2 that he can't talk about but I tend to think details from the script of the original should be fair game. Anyways... the point I guess I was wanting to make is that there are more then a few people out there that shouldn't have to "guess"... but I'm not one of them unfortunately.

The bugs *definitely* had a much larger role initially. Although I don't know just how many seconds, or minutes as the case may be, were cut out of the film it's a fact that they did have a role initially (ie. more than 3 seconds ). I have a legitimate Tron script that I purchased directly from one of the crew but it's a 3rd or 4th revision and I've never actually sat and read through it. It's my understanding though that the scenes with the grid bugs had been shot and were cut from the film after the shooting was over.

As a side note, be very wary of any Tron script you see on eBay. Of the 10 to 20 Tron script auctions that I've seen on eBay in the last 4 years, only 1 *maybe* 2 of them were legit copies. Thankfully most of them did mention in the auction details that they were copies of a script. Provenance is definitely key when buying something like this.

I've learned most of what I know about scripts from JMS as I'm a big Babylon 5 fan. Anyways it's my understanding that script may go though a few revisions before its handed out to the crew and cast. When it is handed out they get what I think are called the "White pages". When revisions are made after this point only the pages that have changed are handed out again. And there is a color sequence they follow... I'm probably wrong on the order here but I think the first version after the white, is the pink, and I think that's followed by the blue, and I don't have a clue what comes after that. Always... unless the crew member himself throws away the pages that were replaced... an original crew member's script can contain all the revisions made after it was first handed out. TimothyC does your script contain pages of different colors? Either way you NEED to read it and let the rest of us know if there are any Gridbug details in there.

If there were any more details about the Grid Bugs in earlier versions of the script, we definitely need to hear about it!

The Grid Bugs were mentioned so off-handedly in the film, that we really have little idea as to what they're all about. (I know they were put in at Bally-Midway's behest, though. Since they were going to be featured in the arcade game.)
