A debate live from FF's kitchen...

on Wednesday, January, 25, 2006 9:18 PM
Is the MCP truly evil? He's following his function. He's designed to appropriate stuff and take stuff over. There is the Clu thing however...the MCP knew it was Flynn, right?
Sark is same.

And what does that make Thorne? Or infected programs in general? If the MCP isn't evil, and then you have Thorne, an insane ex-User, who is, that makes Thorne look sort of, well, demonic...

Could we discuss? Have I neglected to give sufficient detail on this matter?

Yes. The problem with evil people is they are following their own functions. They don't consider someone else's functions and how they are infringing on them.

first, the MCP was designed to pilfer through big business, hacking into thier information, and using a theoretical form of cyber terrorism to force the world into slavery. (just a hunch)

second, the characters in the game suspected this, and worked off the grid, with thier own software engineering, they were able to adapt a theory of what he was doing. but short of knowing enough about the plot to be dangerous, it did't look like MCP though anyone was real threat to it.

I believe Thorne was just too small minded to use the correct alghorithyms, and digitized himself, possible like laura? but he was regretful to have been in there to begin with, maybe he was reading some email? so in that case, a demonic thing, may just be to preserve himself for more corruption, possibly to strike a deal with fcon? he may have been saved after all.

just off the top of my head, much was left out to have a good story line.

The MCP is just a nice, happy-go-lucky chess program that one a few too many chess games. That's all. On the outside, he's a mean-looking spinning red top. But deep down, he's a cute little teddy bear. The MCP is not evil; just misunderstood.

Speaking of the MCP, have you seen him in the Kool-Aid commercials recently? I like his new career move. It really shows that he cares about everyone, people and children alike:

if MCP suddenly crashes through my house, I'd most likely peg him with calculators for destroying my room.

(I just remember the weird 80's koolaid commerical where Koolaid guy would just crash through a wall.)

Kia: Cool. I'm a infamous mythological perfect User.

Very nicely put!

True in the TRON universe, and in the real world as well.

LMAO!

I didn't even catch that the first time I read it!

That's really funny!

People and children alike!

Oh man. Thanks, Traahn - that was really funny, even if a mistake made in haste... or perhaps a Freudian Slip.

Is the MCP truely evil... I believe so... The MCP became self aware which also means that he is responsible for his own actions, and his actions merciless so therefore he is evil.

This includes, but not limited to...

Busting through walls... (Go Koolaid man)
Derezing innocent scripts...
Putting a user on the game grid... (This one is cool, though)
Planing to take over the Pentagon (I watch the movie last night and forgot about that one)
Threating to criminalize his lead user who is also evil...
Running a cyber dictatorship... (in fact, we all do as users anyways when you thing about it).
Idolizing Dart Vader (well... I do and I'm not evil... ok... I am)
Ripping the "Do Not Remove" taggs from mattresses (I made that one up like some of these)
Charging a carp load of money for popcorn when the movie was released.
etc....

So... Is he evil? Yep... Thats my fuzzy-fluffy-lovable-cuddely-sunggely-Koolaid MCP... I love you MCP... *tears form around Qix77's eyes*

Yes, ripping the "Do Not Remove" tag from mattresses is a terribly evil thing to do. This settles it for me. The MCP is evil. Pure and simple.

Just remember,

"I'm bored with corporations..."

No, the MCP 's not truly evil.

"Someone pushes me, I push back." Nope-not evil. The MCP also held pretty good conversations with David Warner's "user" character if you recall.

Yes he did. He also told him what to do, using him (Ed Dillinger) to do his bidding. His intent was clear and selfish. The MCP even used blackmail to push Dillinger's buttons - threatening to feed the truth about Dillinger's stealing Flynn's video games to the news press.

I guess it's all up to opinion, whether or not the MCP was evil. I believe he was. He didn't seem himself as evil, but his actions painted a clear picture to me that he was indeed evil.

Think about if the MCP's actions fall in to any of these categories:

From answers.com:

http://www.answers.com/evil&r=67
e·vil (e'v?l)
adj., e·vil·er, e·vil·est.
1. Morally bad or wrong; wicked: an evil tyrant.
2. Causing ruin, injury, or pain; harmful: the evil effects of a poor diet.
3. Characterized by or indicating future misfortune; ominous: evil omens.
4. Bad or blameworthy by report; infamous: an evil reputation.
5. Characterized by anger or spite; malicious: an evil temper.

n.

1. The quality of being morally bad or wrong; wickedness.
2. That which causes harm, misfortune, or destruction: a leader's power to do both good and evil.
3. An evil force, power, or personification.
4. Something that is a cause or source of suffering, injury, or destruction: the social evils of poverty and injustice.
