I've been a nearly life-long pickup truck pilot. I never even considered driving anything else; when it came time to replace one, I automatically looked at new trucks.

...until yesterday.

I've been getting sick of fueling my 1500 Dodge Ram Quadcab. It was getting up to $250 a month just in gas, to say nothing about the monthy note and insurance. In addition, I've been obsessing over taking our 3 year old to Disneyland no later than next summer, so money has been really pushed to the forefront of my attention. I also got to re-evaluating my actual need for a truck. I realized that I hadn't used the bed for anything in a year, but I take my child in it nearly every day. So, with a bit of self-honesty, I realized I didn't need a truck, only a back seat. Anyway, I got a totally wild hair yesterday.

In a single day, I told my wife we're getting rid of the truck, went to CarMax, sold it (and they made me a great offer, surprisingly with the gas problems) and bought a like-new (18K miles) 2001, blazing red VW Beetle!!! I totally LOVE the thing!!! It's loaded to the teeth, and I now have a much lower monthly note, half the insurance, and twice the milage! And it's FUN, FUN, FUN as all get out to drive! Best yet, we pocketed the difference and are setting it aside to pay for Disneyland! I feel like I've been released from self-imposed prison! HA!

I love vws We have nearly a dozen of them in my family. I drive a 83' diesel turbo rabbit that ive done a bunch of mods too. Solid as a rock awsome handeling and 40+mpg in town. My sister has a turbo bug that we've done some mods to. I know you're saying money, but adding a chip and upgrading the struts and swaybars makes the beetle much more stout. My wife sort of knew I always loved all the Beetles, but I talk up lots of neat things I have no intention of participating in.
