Too bad they couldn't just leave it alone in it's natural habitat. They had to try to catch it, then it tore off a tentacle escaping from them and will likely die of the injury. That sucks.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

Unless squid parts regenerate? Not sure.

They don't regenerate. The scientists were asked about that although they did claim that the injury wouldn't really have an impact on the squid.
Easy for them to say, I guess!

That's really cool that they've found a live giant squid. I know many (already) dead ones have been found and studied, but this is the first of an actual live one I've head of.
And too bad they had to try and capture it. I doubt many good findings would come of that move anyway. Nor would it live long in captivity I imagine.
Cool find though.

This actually is a giant leap in biology. There was evidence of them before, so we knew they were real, but it's always nice to have the proof in the pudding. Show's that the oceans REALLY are a place of mystery.
However I agree with Dave.... why capture/kill/maim it? Just snap some pics and enjoy it.

Nobody said you did.
The article stated that they tried to capture it and tore off one of it's tentacles in the process. DaveTRON

Having just read this article it's not clear to me they were trying to capture it. I'm not sure they weren't either but the article mentions "they managed to photograph the creature using a robotic camera at a depth of 3,000 feet." Was the robotic camera attached to a sub or was it just a small robotic camera with wires running to the surface? I can't tell. Surely you don't try to capture a "26-foot-long animal" with a small robotic camra. The article also states it "was captured when it took small squid and mashed shrimps that were proffered, then fought until it broke free, leaving behind an 18-foot length of tentacle." I'm guessing they were just offering it food so they could observe it eat. It could have easily been in a small container attached to the camera maybe even initially just used in the hopes of attracting giant squid. To me it sounds like when the squid went for the food it got tangled up with the mechanism holding the food and became captured or stuck. Atleast from this article alone its not clear to me that was their intention. If it where and the robotic camera was attached to something large enough to accomplish that task why did the struggle last for more then 4 hours? You'd think they'd just pull the bait into a cage and surface. Sounds to me like they weren't trying to surface and gave the squid over 4 hours to free itself and it sounds like it couldn't. Have some of you seen more of this story? I'm not ready to fault anyone just based on this article alone. If their intent was to capture it I'd be really curious to hear what they thought they'd be able to do with it. I don't think there is anyplace it could be kept alive for long and there have been plenty of dead ones to study. That just doesn't make much sense to me. Maybe I blind myself by trying to assume the best all the time and this was someone wanting to catch one so he could have it stuffed and hung over his fireplace.
Anyways... on a different topic... what good is a eye the size of a dinner plate at 3000 feet? Does ANY light actually make it down that far. The article mentions the tenticle was 18 feet long and that the squid was often out of camera range. Sounds like the lights on the camera couldn't penetrate 18 feet, so without lights regardless of the size of your eye I think it would be pitch black. Anyone know if these animals can make their own light? Maybe they feed off of other animals that give off their own light. Interesting stuff...

wwwmwwwI only speed-read the article, but I also didn't think it said they tried to capture it. Sounded like it was maybe an accident, like you say.
I'm sure there is bio-luminescent life down there, so maybe that explains their eyes. Oh yeah, and I think I've seen some small squid bio-luminescently communicate with each other; so maybe these giant ones do, too? That'd sure be an interesting sight to see if they did!
Reminds me, did anyone get to see "Aliens of the Deep in 3-D" at a local IMAX?

I just read, that this squid was 26 feet, but the largest known squid is called a collossal squid, which could be twice the size as this one. They have found the remanants of the collossal off of antarctica.abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion
