And the wheels go round

on Thursday, August, 18, 2005 11:35 PM
Well, today I am parting with my van which I have driven for the past 5-6 years. It's a little ol grey 1989 Dodge Caravan. While the little non turbo 4-banger with no curise control isn't anything special, it has served me very well. It got me from point A to B confortablly with no problems. A new owner awaits it soon. Going to miss the little box on wheels of which I had grown used to and enjoyed.

Farwell little grey minivan. May your engine run clean and odomoter high on the road of automotive life.

I had the same thing with a car I had for 13 years. From 1991 to 2004. Spanned a big chunk of my life, and it was sad to see it loaded up on a truck and hauled off.

Did you get a new car Sketch? If so, what kind?

I just got my 83' vw rabbit back on the road. For the vdub fans I have put a larger 1.9L diesel and larger compressor wheel on the turbo, intake, exhuast, a few other goodies. It feels like an overgrown gokart, tons of fun and great mileage.

Its hard to let vehicles go, I usualy buy something thats in a total lack of love, and fix it up. Then something or other happens to it *tear.

Sketch if you're looking for a car post about what your needs are we could hold a forum poll to find out which sort of car you should pickup. hehe....pimp sketches ride!abortion pills online abortion questions cytotec abortion

Yeah, after driving the ol grey van for so long, I became sortta attached to it, and how it handled.

Well, I'm going to drive my Dad's red Jeep Cherokee. He recently got a great deal on a used van, so I can take the Jeep till then. The Jeep is great cause the back seats fold down in case I need haul stuff for classes. That was the nice thing about the mini van, when my Painting 2 class came around, I am so thankfull I could load up my paintings and work on them at my apartment, instead of the classroom after hours, when other classes had to use the room. Made working alo easier and less stressful.

I'll be happy driving the Jeep for now. We'll keep our eyes out for another Jeep Cherokee, or possible mini van, I'm kinda wondering more about a Jeep instead of a Van, since I drove one for so long, just wondering it's time to move to something other than a van that is enclosed and can haul stuff. Don't see many on used Cherokees lots, which shows how popular they are. The new Jeep Liberty was issued to replace the Cherokee, but as many had said, the Libery has some very big shoes to fill.

No nead to pimp my ride kmon. Heh heh. You should see what's being restored in the shop. When it's done itll be pimpin enough for me.

Wait! I know it's not one of our icons here on TS, but why isn't there an ENCOM van like this here? That could be the ENCOM mini van.

Sketch, I think I see your next vehicle!

Yeah, after I created that, the Encom van idea will be next. Though I need to know what year and model van they used in the film.

Wow - you owned this 1989 vehicle for 5 or 6 years and it was STILL drivable?

That's almost unheard of around these parts! It's not uncommon to see a Swiss cheese looking car driving down the road all brown and filled with holes.

Upstate, NY is very tough on cars because of our SNOWY-damn winters. They keep the roads VERY salted... and most cars literally rust away within a decade! Even my own car, just bought it new in 2003 (2003 model year), has rust under the doors already! And I wash it quite frequently.

Yep - they should call these parts, Car Corrosion Central!

Well, I'm sure your old minivan will find a good home with its new owner. Just hope they don't take it up north. where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

Back in 1998 I got my first car, a hand-me-down from my Dad. It was a 1984 S-10 Chevy Blazer (one of the smaller kind, not the big ones). It had a tiny bit of rust on it, but very little. No holes or anything like that. Of course . . . the only reason it hadn't rusted itself to pieces due to the Canadian winter is because my Dad had it sprayed with a rust-protection coating every year, religiously.

The paint had faded somewhat too, but he also applied protectants to the body every year. So the paint still looked okay, if a bit dull. I did a bit of touch-up painting wherever it looked the worst. But basically, on first glance at the car: you wouldn't have thought it was 14 years old at the time.

In a way, I liked the car. It was easy to handle, and getting parts for it was easy since it was so old. The space in the back was big enough to fit lots of items, especially if the rear seat was folded down.

What I didn't like, was the mileage and the constant repairs. I swear, every 6 months like clockwork something broke down. By the time I got rid of it, I'd almost spent enough money in repairs to buy another used car. New fuel pump, radiator, carburetor, transmission, catalytic convertor . . . all within a 3 year timespan. Of course, it didn't help that the car was 17 years old by the time I got rid of it.

Now I have a 1995 Chrysler Cirrus, that I picked up from a family friend for a good price. The best part is that it's in excellent shape because he barely drove the car in all the years that he owned it. It didn't even have 60,000 miles on the odometer when I bought it. Even though I'm not fond of Chrysler and this car is supposed to be something of a lemon, I'm knocking on wood because so far it hasn't given me any real problems. I bought this car because it was in too good shape at too good a price, to pass up.
