2.0 problems

on Tuesday, August, 09, 2005 7:10 PM
so i finaly got a new videocard... one capable of running 2.0 with all the bells and whistles on a decent resolution. and decided i would re-visit the game.

i installed it and played it just fine for the first few hours. but now when ever i load a save file it insta-crashes to desktop. sucks cuz i was doin pretty good too. i never updated it... partialy becouse the main site was down and thats where i always got the file in the past. but thinking about it i believe i could have goten them here... anyway, i don't WANT to update it now as i recall something about that voiding all save files as well.

any idea what could be causing this crash? or what i can do about it?on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill onlinewhere to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online

That's terrible news! Unfortunately, I don't know the answer. Maybe look for a post around here from Tronfaq. His signature links to his Tron 2.0 FAQ site where there may be troubleshooting info on this.

My problem is that my Tron 2.0 audio is scratchy and static-y. If anyone knows the reason why, I'm all ears on this one, too To my knowledge, it only happens in Tron 2.0.

So no matter which save game file you load, it crashes? Even if you load different ones? Hmm.

Yeah, don't patch the game yet. You'll definitely lose your saved games, that way.

Seems kind of strange for all the saved games to have gone corrupt at once. Though it's a possibility. (Or it could be that just the "Save1001.ini" file has somehow become corrupt.) Maybe if you try again after shutting down and restarting, the problem could go away. But not likely. If the files have become corrupt, then I'm afraid there's not much you can do.

Did you perhaps try out a mod, and then forget to disable it again? That would cause the game to crash every time you load a saved game.

Tell me what kind of sound card/chip you're using, and which sound drivers . . . I'll try to figure it out.

VIA chipsets??? they have problems unless you uninstall your drivers, and reinstall the most current drivers. beware of careful not to use microsoft drivers in VIA. they are naughty.

According to dxdiag:

NVIDIA nForce Audio
Version 6.14.0442.0030

The way NVIDIA works, though, the version may actuallly shift the numbers so it's actually something like 4.42 or something. They do this with their video drivers usually.

Basically, my audio card is on my motherboard... NVIDIA SoundStorm... w/ nForce Audio. My mobo is an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe, nForce 2 chipset.

Thanks for checking, if you get a chance!

UPDATE: Greeeat, I just tried to play lightcycles like I have the past few nights, but when I click a game to join and click Join Game, it gives me this error as it crashes to Windows:
Client MFC Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconveineintce. And there's a little LITHTECH LOGO.
I just checked your FAQ and I already "Permitted All" to the necessary Tron 2.0 files in my Norton Internet Security the other day. And I don't really have any separate firewall.

Follow-up -- I got the game to work (no crashes). I just went into Norton and tried re-telling it that the game should have accesss to the internet. When I tried, it said: "You already granted permission to this program," or whatever. So, at least on the surface, it didn't let me do anything as the EXE files were already set up to be able to access the internet.

The only thing I can think of that may have caused the MFC error is that I first booted the game up without the CD. Then when I tried to launch a lightcycle match, I got the "CD-Key could not be verified message." So I then quit the game, put the CD in and tried again. That's when I got the MFC Application error. Re-started the game a few times and got the MFC App error each time. Then tried re-telling Norton, as I mentioned above. I then re-launched and all was well. Maybe my system just took a few re-launches of the game before everything was in-synch, I dunno? :P

The audio was bad at first, but then got better. I didn't pay attention to know whether or not it actually got better, or if I just managed to adapt.

Heh, you have almost exactly the same setup as I do. Asus mobo, nForce 2 chipset, and Soundstorm.

Your audio drivers are a bit out of date. Earlier nVidia drivers had some problems with Tron 2.0, but most of those were fixed in later versions.

As it turns out, even I have to update my drivers . . . I found out nVidia released another set just recently. You're at 4.42 and I'm at 4.60, but now there's a 4.62 set.

Download the updated audio drivers (plus more) here:
http://www.planetnvidia.com/page.php?id=1
I just install them over top rather than uninstalling the old and installing the new. Traditionally you're supposed to uninstall first, but I find in this case it always works for me. Just the same: be careful when you update drivers and make a backup first, if you can.

You're probably wondering what the deal is with this driver package being a "remix". Well, nVidia are being silly and only including the latest drivers in their nForce 3 and 4 sets. But a lot of those drivers work just fine on nForce 2. Yet, they're not releasing them in a form that works for nForce 2 owners. So someone is ripping out the useful updated stuff that works on nForce 2, and putting together an installer package for us.

As for the crashing problems . . . I've heard stories that the game is cranky on XP SP2. But I can't verify it, since I haven't taken the plunge and installed SP2. (In fact I've intentionally stayed away from it.) But I might end up installing it on my 2nd PC that I'm upgrading, and will see if the game acts funny at all in SP2.

I haven't seen SP2 have interaction with my game play. I just formatted last week, and I'm running almost nothing but macaffe firewall, and spysweeper.

Sometimes I let Xfire and MSN messenger run... as a result, My game improved considerably. (no more AOHELL)..

I think if you have software that uses macros or whatever running in the background to protect your computer, you lose alot of power, unless you have a intel board, I noticed they perform well in this application.

I have a MSI Delta ILSR w/Nvidia nforce 2. When my drivers are out of date, I may experience a crash.

Awesome!!! Thank you redrain!! And here I thought I was pretty much up-to-date with my drivers... I had been to nVidia's site, doing the video drivers and the nForce (I thought), but maybe I missed a round or two or three.. or maybe nForce drivers don't take care of the audio drivers portion? Oh well. I will do this upgrade soon, and thanks also for the info on the nForce3/4... I never would've thought those options existed

RE: SP2 -- I also held out for as long as possible. I just reformatted my hard drive a few weeks back and decided to take the plunge. It's okay so far... no huge issues that I can see... (yet). Haven't had the game crash since that night either.

Yeah, like I said . . . nVidia are being stupid. They're only giving out the latest drivers as part of their nForce 3 and 4 sets. Meanwhile, they could be doing the same with the nForce 2 sets but they don't. So it's up to end-users to find this out for themselves. What is it with companies and customer service/support these days? They just love to ditch their customers every chance they get, if one of their products happens to be a little older now and not the latest.

BTW, if you install this "remix" . . . I discovered that the remix installer creates another installer with the drivers you picked. So you have to run that second installer to actually update your drivers. Make sure to only pick the ones you need (e.g. there are ForceWare video drivers as part of the package too, but I don't need them).

As for SP2. I just installed it on my 2nd PC. Man, that wasn't a fun experience. Turns out Norton SystemWorks 2005 does not install properly on SP2, and screws up Windows a bit. It breaks the Windows Update feature. So I had to undo the damage it did. And now on top of that, it looks like I'll have to wait for SystemWorks 2006 before I can try again. Grr.

I'm going to install Tron 2.0 on the 2nd PC soon, and will see how it holds up.
